Cutemen were a Japanese electro duo that first formed in 1985. Initially a gothic post-punk band, the original formation of Cutemen disbanded in 1987, although it was later resurrected in 1991 as a duo of former vocalist CMJK on production and a new vocalist, Picorin. Thanks to their new style and the fact that CMJK was previously a member of the popular electronica group Denki Groove, the duo went major after only a few months of activity, and signed to Victor Entertainment. Although the duo failed to chart during their main years of major activity, they did manage to develop a humongous cult following in the underground electronic scene.
In late 1993, Cutemen decided to go on an indefinite hiatus, and, during this hiatus, frontman Picorin retired, while CMJK went on to produce for a few more artists, and also formed another group, which was called Confusion. However, Confusion also ended up splitting in 1997, but CMJK kept working with and producing for other artists, including artists such as Penicillin, V6, Ayumi Hamasaki, and, even producing a few tracks for the successful comedy duo Kyaeen!. In 2000, Cutemen resurrected activities, releasing a couple of singles before folding again in late 2002. Cutemen then sporadically had reunion shows once every few years, before later reuniting in 2016. In November of 2016, Cutemen released their first compilation album “Cruel Memories”, and also released “Humanity” that month as well, which was their first original album release in over two decades. « hide |
