Clutch

Clutch combined elements of funk, Led Zeppelin, and metal with vocals inspired by Faith No More. Formedin1991inGermantown,MD, thegroupincluded Neil Fallon (vocals), Tim Sult (guitar), Dan Maines (bass), and Jean-PaulGaster(drums).They built a localfollowing throughconstantgigging, and after just one 7" single (the classicEaracherelease"PassiveRestraints") Clutch was signedby EastWest Records. Pure Rock Fury appeared in 2001, and thesimilarly uncompromising Blast Tyrant camethreeyears laterastheirfirst for DRTRecords. Their seventh full-length, RobotHive/Exodus, followed in 2005 and featured thefirstlineupchangesince the early '90s,the addition oforganist Mick Schauer.Among Clutch's numerous side releases were agroove- basedalbum (2000's Jam Room), as well as Live atthe Googolplexand therarities record Slow Hole to China, bothissuedin2003.Also issued in 2005, Pitchfork & Lost Needles combined Clutch's1991Pitchfork 7"with unreleased demos andearlytracks.Inthe fall of 2006, the band hit the studio with producer Joe Barresi (Kyuss,Melvins) torecord their nextalbum;theresultingFromBeale Street to Oblivion appeared in March 2007. In 2008, the bandreleased a CD/DVD compilationoflivetracksfromshows inNew Jersey, Pittsburgh, and Sydney titled Full Fathom Five: Audio FieldRecordings 2007- 2008ontheirownlabel,WeathermakerMusic. The band followed up in 2009 with Strange Cousins from the West,before deliveringtheirtenthalbum,EarthRocker, in 2013. « hide
