Atban Klann was an underground alternative hip hop group from Los Angeles. Formed in 1988 by Will.i.am (then known as Will1X)
and apl.de.ap when they only 13 years old, they notably signed to the legendary rap label Ruthless Records in 1991 at the age
of 16. The group soon developed a cult underground following for their unique sound which had many unorthodox and jazzy
samples. They recorded one album in 1992, "Grass Roots", which was set to be released in October of 1992 but never officially
was released aside from a few promo copies that circulated, with each copy known to go for relatively high prices. Atban Klann
ended up disbanding in 1995, and both Will 1X/Will.i.am and apl.de.ap went on to form the massively popular hip-pop group The
Black Eyed Peas.
