Wednesday 13

Wednesday 13 originally emerged during the late ‘90s as the frontman for Frankenstein Drag Queens, an oft-overlooked horror-laced metal band that managed to issue five full-lengths between 1996-2001. The early 21st century saw the singer unite with Slipknot’s Joey Jordison in the Murderdolls, a group that issued a lone release, 2002’s Beyond the Valley of the Murderdolls, before Wednesday 13 launched a solo career. For his sophomore solo outing, shock rocker Wednesday 13 wanted to try a different tactic than his previous release, 2005’s Transylvania 90210. “We toured all of last year, actually until December. I basically started writing as soon as we got home from the tour. Originally, I wrote about 30 songs, and realized I didn't like any of ‘em [laughs]. It was a little heavier and I was just sitting here one day, and going, ‘This isn't really what I want to do right now. I'm just going to start from scratch again.’ So I put all those songs to rest, and for the next two weeks, every day, I would stay up until 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning, and write new songs.” After a mere two weeks, the former Murderdolls frontman had enough tracks in the can for his next platter, Fang Bang (Wednesday 13’s first release for Rykodisc). Unlike some artists that nitpick for months on end during the songwriting process, Wednesday 13 took the complete opposite approach. “To me, it’s always the easier stuff that turns out to be the best stuff - that's how I've written in the past over the years.” And in the studio, he also followed the same breakneck workpace. “It was probably one of the quickest things I've done in quite a while. I basically went in, started tracking, and finished the entire record in about five days.” Self-produced, the album was mixed by Bob Marlette (Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath). « hide
