Stargazer is an avant-garde blackened death metal bandfrom Australia. The band formed in Adelaide in 1995 andhas oftenbeen forced into hiatus due to the departure ofmembers or their involvement with other bands.Stargazer was formed by Denny Blake ("The SerpentInquisitor") on guitar, Damon Good ("The GreatRighteous Destroyer")on bass and Paul Murphyproviding drums and vocals. Stargazer is an avant-garde blackened death metal bandfrom Australia. The band formed in Adelaide in 1995 andhas oftenbeen forced into hiatus due to the departure ofmembers or their involvement with other bands.Stargazer was formed by Denny Blake ("The SerpentInquisitor") on guitar, Damon Good ("The GreatRighteous Destroyer")on bass and Paul Murphyproviding drums and vocals. This line-up recorded ademo called "Gloat" in 1996, followed bytheindependently issued "Borne" EP the following year.After this, Murphy was replaced by Matt Butt ("PhoenixChrysalis"), withGood and Blake sharing the vocal role.Butt later joined the black metal band Darklord. Aroundthe same time, Blake andGood joined another Adelaidedeath metal band called Martire, a group that hadoriginally formed in 1984 but had recentlybecome activeagain. In this band, Blake played drums. The pairrecorded several tracks with Martire, two of whichfeaturedon a rare split vinyl EP with American bandAngelcorpse. Three more appeared on the EP "Lucifer"that was released byGerman label Merciless Records in2001.In 1999 Stargazer signed to Singapore's Dies IraeProductions and the following year released a split EPwith Brisbane deathmetal band Invocation. Stargazer'shalf of the recording was titled "Harbringer" and featuredseven tracks, mostly re-recordings of songs earlierfeatured on "Gloat" and "Borne". Butt left the bandaround this time and Stargazer went dormantwhile Blakeand Good worked with other Adelaide groups includingMartire and Misery's Omen. Good also proceeded withhisfuneral doom act Mournful Congregation. He alsoplayed bass for the Greek black metal band Zemial(which was based inAdelaide at the time) on a Europeantour during December 2001.Stargazer also began work on their album The ScreamThat Tore the Sky as a duo during this time with Blakeperformingboth guitars and drums and Good providingbass while both shared vocals. The first track to emergewas "Magikkian", whichappeared on three compilationalbums between late 2001 and 2003 and on a split 7"vinyl release with American death metalband Arghoslentin 2002. The group returned to live work in 2003 withdrummer The Zelator for a tour with cult AmericanbandNunslaughter. In 2005, the Polish label Agonia Recordsreleased The Scream That Tore the Sky and in mid-2006Stargazer undertook a tour of Japan. Since then,Selenium has joined the band on drums and in early2007 they supportedSuffocation on several Australiandates. « hide
