anAfrican-American musician, singer, and actor. Famed chiefly for his powerful, operatic vocal delivery and wildlytheatrical performances of
songssuch as "I Put a Spellon You", Hawkins sometimes used macabre props onstage, making himone of the few early shock rockers.
