Luna Sea is a legendary Japanese rock band that formed in 1986 by high school students J and Inoran. Just five years later, the group were noticed by visual kei godfather, hide, and the group signed to X Japan mastermind Yoshiki's own label, Extasy Records, releasing their self-titled debut albumin 1991. The group's time on Yoshiki's label made the group gain even more exposure, and, in 1992, the group signed to the major label MCA Victor, and released their second album, "Image", that year. The album broke the Oricon top 10 at number 9, and, from this point on,the groupwere considered to be true visual kei icons. By the turn of the 1990's, the group experienced true rock super stardom, starting withthe group's1994 single, "True Blue", peaking at number 1, becoming the group's first number 1 single. In 1996, the group released their single,"End ofSorrow", which was certified platinum since its release. From this point on, the group dominated the Oricon top 5, with the lowest-sellingsingles oftheirs during this span, 2000's"Tonight" and "Love Song", ranking at number 4. In 2000, the group announced its indefinite hiatus,although thegroup become bona-fide rock superstars, and are arguably among one of visual kei's most successful bands in the genre's history.In 2007 and2008, the group had brief reunion shows, and, in 2010, the group reunited, and the group released its first single in over a decade,"Promise", in2011, which was released to help with the Japanese earthquake benefit funds. A year later,the group released two more singles toimpressivesuccess, and are one of Japan's most successful and well-known rock groups in modern music history, as well as being true visual keipioneers. « hide |
