The Glitter Band is a glam rock band that first started in 1972 as the backing band of the now infamous singer Gary Glitter, when they were originally known as Glittermen before changing their name to The Glitter Band in 1973. In 1974, the band would break apart from Gary Glitter and became their own band, achieving some mainstream success in the UK throughout 1974 and 1975. After years of declining success, The Glitter Band would go on a hiatus in 1984 before returning in 1987 and would function primarily as a touring act from that point on until officially disbanding in 2001.

In 2006, The Glitter Band reunited again, although disputes among members and behind-the-scenes management would taint any future progress. In 2008, some of the members of the band would release the album "Glitteresque", which was their first original album release in over 20 years, although one of their old labels (it is not specified who, exactly) would have it get pulled soon after its release. A few versions of the band would tour throughout the years, although following the passing of band leader John Rossall in October of 2021, the future of The Glitter Band remains unclear as they seem to have dissolved again afterwards. « hide |
