Colosseum

Colosseum is one of the fundamental proto-fusion bands of the late sixties. Highly underrated, they combined stellar compositional achievements with well established musicianship. Founding in 1968, Jon Hiseman, tenor sax-player Dick Heckstall-Smith and bassist Tony Reeves, created a jazz-rock-blues sound that was (as a precurser to the mahavishnu orchestra, who combined indian influences with this sound) explosive and yet remained coherent.
