The Distillers takes the cake.Headed by a dark, sexy, and not to mention talented, Brody Dalle (Armstrong), this band contains abstract, poetic, andbitinglyrics, excellent bass and drum playing and again, a vocalist with a both angry growl and a melodic purr to her chords.Forming in 1998, the band has changed it's members around a couple times, but the current run-up seems secure (ignoringthe vague rumors Brody's leaving to take care of her new baby at home). With dysfunctional, yet certainly deepandemotionaly appealing songs, the band has picked up a lot of fans since their 2000 self-titled release. "Coral Fang"(2003)takes a more controlled approach to the music than that faster paced and more unorganized sound to that 2000release,though both are equally applaud-worthy.Similar bands: Few and far between. Faint remnants of The Germs, Crass, perhaps Circle Jerks, and then picksomethingmelodic. Bass reminds me of.........Operation Ivy. Good. Trust me. « hide |
