By 1992, Suede were hailed as "TheBest New Band inBritain", andattracted much attention from the British music press. The following year their glam rock- inspireddebut album, Suede, went to thetop of the chartsand became the fastest-selling debut album in almost ten years, helping kick-start the Britpop movement. However, theband's lush follow-up, Dog ManStar (1994), saw Suede distance themselves from theirBritpop peers. Although it is often regarded as theband's masterpiece, the recording sessionsfor Dog Man Star were fraught withdifficulty, and ended with Butler departing the band after heatedarguments with Anderson. In 1996 following therecruitment ofRichard Oakes and later keyboardist Neil Codling, Suede went on to greater commercial success withComing Up. The albumcharted atnumber one in the UK, producing five top ten singles and became their biggest-selling album worldwide. Afterthe releaseof the B-sides compilationSci-Fi Lullabies in 1997, Anderson became addicted to crack and heroin. Despite problems withintheband, Suede's fourth album Head Music (1999)was a British chart-topper. Suede's final album, A New Morning (2002), theirfirst after thecollapse of Nude Records, was a commercial disappointment. In 2003, after the release of the Singles compilation,Suede disbanded. Aftermuch speculation Suede reformed in 2010 for a series of concerts. « hide
