Mudbones was an underground rap group that first formed in 1989. It consisted of emcees Collosus, Mars and Keige. Originally known as Bloody Ruffnecks, the group changed their name to Mudbones in 1992. In 1993, they signed to Columbia and were set to record an album, with production set to include Zev Love X (later known as MF Doom) and Grandfather Don. However, due to numerous issues with the label and within the group itself, including Keige’s PCP habit, Columbia halted progress on the album and dropped Mudbones from the label. The group then dissolved entirely in 1995.

Both Mars and Keige would go on to solo careers, with Mars changing his name to Masai Bey and Keige changing his name simply to Cage, who would go on to become one of the most legendary emcees in the underground. Masai Bey and Cage would later reunite in 1998 to form the rap collective The Weathermen. Despite the album never being released or finished, bits of the album have surfaced online over the years, and in 2012, five tracks recorded from when Mudbones were active were compiled and unofficially released as “Mudbones Madness”. « hide |
