Haircut One Hundred formed in London in 1980 around core members Nick Heyward, Les Nemes, and Graham Jones, eventually expanding into a six-piece lineup. They achieved swift international success with their 1982 debut album, Pelican West, and hit singles like "Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)" and "Love Plus One." Following internal tensions and stress, frontman Heyward departed in early 1983. The remaining members continued briefly under Marc Fox, releasing the unsuccessful album Paint and Paint in 1984 before disbanding, while Heyward launched a solo career.

After occasional reunions over the decades - including a full live performance of Pelican West in 2011 - the band formally reunited in the 2020s for re-issues, live shows, and new music.
