54-71 are a Japanese avant-garde/noise hip hop band that formed in 1995. 54-71 are known for their highly unorthodox hip hop
style, which often blends bizarre samples, shrieks, feedback and highly abstract lyrics. This style helped make 54-71 one of the
most respected bands in the Japanese hip hop underground. Since 2011, however, 54-71 have been on a mysterious hiatus.
