“It sounds FANTASTIC on high end equipment”
It really does. It’s amazing how meticulously this was produced. There really was a lot of care and love put into this… it’s just not nearly as good as it should’ve been. But it really does sound nice on a production level.

Has a few great songs but other than that… it’s not doing much for me given how hyped I was.

The Sput community getting it wrong once again, congrats fellas! Another year of endless, generic black metal/death metal plaguing the trending albums section (Even though the Job For a Cowboy album definitely belongs in there).

i was there in 2010 my friend, site user since '07 and back then, the metal heads didn't get their panties in a twist when good mellow music was coming out.

No, I think most people consider this pretty meh no matter what site you’re on. Their prior album was received pretty well. All of them were received pretty well; this one just not so much, and understandably so

It's definitely not been as well received as LDA or Congratulations on most sites by users, but weirdly it's been their best reviewed album by professional critics.

'nothing changes' slaps so hard! reminds me of "the nurse who loves me" by Failure mixed with like the good Oasis stuff lol. loving this very much a 4 (possibly a chub rating that could be a grower)

“ it's been their best reviewed album by professional critics.”
every album by an established band is received well by professional critics in the 20s

This album is a major let down for me. Always thought this band creates some excellent songs and barely worthwhile albums. Now this one doesn't even have the songs. Bublegum dog is pretty fun though. I's like they made the least inspired and energetic songs possible, and added layers of production magic over it. Is there a pitfall more common for psychedelic artists than getting completely fixated on production disvaluing the actual composition? Professional critics praising a mainstream artist going even softer and safer shouldn't surprise anybody.

I'm curious if there's any aspects of the production you can pinpoint that wouldn't also be considered part of the composition

that a is damn good point ^ @Colton

Yea I guess that's where they are going for here. Composing by altering their simple skeleton of a song made of campfire guitar and pop singing tunes with high end studiowork. It's understandable that these rich souncapes do it for some but for me there is just very little happening musically here.

Rather have that than the same generic cookie-cutter black metal such as Borknagar's Fall (?) plaguing the trending section all the time

This has potential to keep climbing in my rating. I'm really liking it and I think repeat listens unveil more layers.
