ah sorry im speaking some hokey right now. i cant really speak, just make baseless assumptions, since last night was the first time I listened to The Avalanches at all. Im just saying that they waited way too long to make their follow up so they were limited on options for a followup in my book. and i liked it enough to not be THAT let down (though I didnt have the same levels of expectations as everyone else)

Feeling a low 3.5 on Wildflower atm, but it honestly could've been a lot worse. Comeback albums

"pots frankie sinatra is literally just a standard electroswing track which is a genre where literally every artist and song sounds nearly identical, idk what you're seeing in it honestly"

and every other song on here sounds like beach boys worship or cheesy old disco funk r&b bullshit which all also sounds exactly the same the difference being that those 2 have been being done for decades and electro swing is a relatively new phenomena so regardless frankie sinatra is objectively a fresher style

Honestly I'm not sure what The Avalanches could have done to both appease Since I Left You fans while remaining fresh

because its a concept not done to death by other artists for two decades now, following that line of logic.

make a plunderphonics record that plunders relevant music that hasnt really been plundered before in a 'The Avalanches' style

reading comprehension bud. you dont have it.

i said its fresher. which is indisputable. it just happens that for me personally i prefer something fresher to something thats been done a million times over the last several decades. and thus, it is better for me.

i thought their new record mixed things up enough to not group it with all the other electroswing records, honestly.

like at this point this kind of music being made in 2016 is novel at best

also honestly electroswing isn't even that new now shits been done since like 2010 and as a genre its progressed maybe like a single centimeter since its inception

ur definitely right this isn't anything new or revolutionary and its something i could easily have imagined as the follow up to since i left you but i just think they did it really fantastically well

I mean... It sounds a decent bit like this and you're clearly in love with this. Why does it have to reinvent the wheel? Who gives a damn if it doesn't sound hyper modernized? I listen to plenty of music both old and new, so where this falls in time period is really of no concern to me. The avalanches could make 20 albums that rehash ideas from since I left you and I'd probably still love them; I'm just really into their aesthetic.

Also I know this is purely subjective but Frankie is easily one of the worst songs on the album. I mean it's fun and all but it can be pretty damned grating too

am i? i think its a classic plunderphonics record. doesnt mean im in love with it. DJ Shadow is a classic plunderphonics/trip hop record and im not in love with that either.

we've already had this conversation at great lengths over that Julia Holter album, I don't really feel like doing that all over again. you already know that expecting something more than a complete rehash doesnt mean you expect someone to 'reinvent the wheel' or sound 'hyper modernized'.
