The La's Reform 2009-05-31 by Iai EMERITUS | 0 Comments | Lee Mavers is back. The infamous British singer/songwriter has announced that not only has he reformed The La's for a tour, but that a second album has been written - a mere 19 years after the first.
Mavers, best known for the evergreen "There She Goes", was acknowledged as a major catalyst for the Britpop movement when The La's - recorded with a revolving set of musicians including bassist John Power, drummer Chris Sharrock, and guitarist John Byrne - went silver in 1990. The album, however, was not how the perfectionist Mavers had imagined it - the band had rejected the recording sessions, leaving producer Steve Lilywhite to piece together an album from the available material. Mavers later called the album 'a piece of complete shit', and is no doubt relishing the opportunity to set the record straight.
The line-up for the reformed La's at this point includes only Mavers and former Babyshambles guitarist Drew McConnell, who will switch to bass and assume the role of John Power (who had success in the '90s with Britpoppers Cast). McConnell has modestly added that 'we just need to find a drummer and a guitar player that can nail it down the same way I have'.
