Lil Peep Dead At 21

2017-11-16 by aaronrkc | 148 Comments
New York-born rapper Lil Peep, born Gustav Ahr, died on Wednesday night before a concert in Tuscon, Arizona, due to an alleged opioid overdose.

According to his manager, Mikey Cortez, who took to Instagram:

"I'm completely heart broken and lost right now. I can't even feel it's not real. I love you and I'll miss you always. One of the realest. Please someone tell me this isn't real."

He was 21 years old.

When are we going to stop perpetuating the myth that most drug addicts don't know the risks involved? Odds are he knew the risks and didn't care because of the way the drugs made him feel. Never heard much by this guy, but a very sad death nonetheless

yea let’s please not say they should know better. they do. countless people from my hometown have been dying from ODs the past few years. recent one was literally a few days from his baby being born and he was trying so hard to be clean. obviously we all wonder what makes one put that needle in their arm the first time, but it’s hard to judge when you don’t know what someone’s life is like.

peep was not only addicted but extremely depressed and suicidal. he has literally said there are days that he wish he didn’t wake up. a predictable end for him. it’s sad.

"Why feel sorry for someone who risked their own life for a dangerous high? If he didnt care about his own life than why should we?"

So, if your closest parent and friend both became addicted to Xanax because they were chasing a high, you wouldn't care? You should absolutely feel sorry for people who die from drug overdoses. They know the risks but their dependency on the drug alters the way dopamine is processed, forcing them to chase a high in order to avoid feel increasingly more depressed/anxious/paranoid/etc. Drug addicts are still people who deserve to be respected...

No-one's saying he's a bad person for doing what he wants to do with his body, it's just he apparently had a very open and casual stance of "oh hey doing hard drugs isn't so bad" and didn't make any effort to tell his fans not to follow his example.

GmemberKills
November 16th 2017

All I know is the consumption/glorification of drugs in general is scarier than ever these days, especially when so many street drugs are being laced/counterfeited with fentanyl

Addicts and even first time users can now ingest a drug that looks 100% like the real thing, and end up overdosing on a amount that normally wouldn't ever cause one. Hard drugs are obviously harmful to begin with, but now the potential for death is higher than ever, and many people are still walking around unaware.

I'd be afraid to even do a line of coke now tbh

hal1ax

claiming to be a functional//productive addict isn't necessarily glamorizing heavy drug use. i mean i of course agree that people like this have a certain moral responsibility to not mislead some of their more vulnerable fans and inculcate some image of the cool drug abusing musician guy but idk , opiate / benzo use is inherently numbing , and just all around judgment impairing. not surprising why addicts aren't exactly beacons of responsibility.

a few days ago i watched an interview with lil xan who said he quit using xanax because a lot of the pills, at least the ones off the street, were cut and/or laced with fentanyl, which is an opioid with a potency greater than morphine. he was smart to quit. sometimes people feel so sick and depressed to the point where they live recklessly, not outright committing suicide but not caring if they live or die. many who die from an overdose suffer through that. hogan900 come on man, don't be like that. People who have self-destructive behaviors don't have them out of the deep philosophical belief that life isn't worth it. They have them because they are unhappy.
If you don't care about your own life, it means you're already very depressed and it's sad to see a 21 year old man be like this, and die.

really upsetting seeing some of the comments here. I get how someone might think its as easy as simply deciding to switch up and change to a cleaner lifestyle, but when you've struggled with some form of mental illness, trying to get sober just amplifies the anxieties and depression that may have already existed. I'm aware this isn't the place to preach, but its sad to see some of you write off a person who was very apparent with their struggle. the least anyone could do that may have had a negative outlook with Lil Peep is just hop along to the next page.

but i guess the internet will be the internet.

Yea some people trying to package sobriety vs. drug use as some clean-cut dichotomy, like choosing between chicken or fish at a restaurant. People with pathological susceptibilities to substances spend their entire lives battling themselves. It’s absolute hell , full of delusion , self-manipulation, self-loathing , self-destruction , etc etc. every long-term addict I know, myself included, hates the fact that they’re so drawn to / consumed by these feelings elicited by certain substances. It’s not something they wittingly chose.
