Tom Morello + Boots Riley

2009-05-29 by PuddleSwimmer | 14 Comments
Tom Morello (guitarist for Rage Against The Machine/Audioslave, frontman for The Nightwatchman) and Boots Riley of The Coup are releasing their debut album together under the band name Street Sweeper Social Club.
The 11-song album will be 'closer to Rage Against The Machine than Audioslave' containing political rap/rock songs - Morello will be playing guitar and bass while Riley raps. For touring purposes, Morello asked bassist Carl Restivo (Satellite Party/The Nightwatchman) to join in April 2009.

The band has been formed since 2007, when Riley would join Morello on the Nightwatchman tours as an opening act. The two, at the time, were known for covering MC5's "Kick Out The Jams" and their own song off the debut, "100 Little Curses".
Morello said that he had dinner with Riley after Audioslave broke up, gave him a mix tape of songs and told him to write words to rap to.

Recently, Morello got a call from Trent Reznor saying, "Hey, want to do the (Nine Inch Nails/Jane's Addiction) tour?"
Morello tells Billboard.com: "So all of a sudden the leisurely mixing process became, 'We gotta get this out right now! We've got to start rehearsing for the tour tomorrow!'"

Morello and Riley's self-titled debut album will be released June 16th, 2009.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Fight! Smash! Win!
2. 100 Little Curses
3. The Oath
4. The Squeeze
5. Clap For The Killers
6. Somewhere In the World It's Midnight
7. Shock You Again
8. Good Morning, Mrs. Smith
9. Megablast
10. Promenade
11. Nobody Moves (Til We Say Go)

'closer to Rage Against The Machine than Audioslave' is promising, still not getting my hopes up.
