Nas & Damian Marley Collab
2009-03-02 by dub sean | 21 Comments

Nas and Damian Marley have been recording songs together in a studio in Los Angeles for the last several weeks and Nas has confirmed they will release a collaborative album. The album remains untitled as of yet, but is set to be released in spring 2009.

"In addition to its regular incarnation, the album may also be released in a special edition exclusively through Best Buy or Target. A portion of the proceeds will go toward building a school in Africa, though details are still being solidified."

Kingsoby1,

what they're doing is called "marketing"... it works for most people that think "hey im donating to africa fam", but it doesn't work for me. it's a business technique that makes people feel better about their purchase and feel bad if they didn't buy it.

nas and marley are rich as f*ck. it would make me feel better if they donated ALL proceeds... or even half... because they sure as hell can afford it.

I'm pretty sure there's nothing that says Nas & Damian have to donate any money at all. Or any other artist for that matter. So, I'd say any donations would be pretty generous.

That's pretty obvious dude... they also shouldn't try to look like saviors by doing so.

I seriously doubt Def Jam or Universal would let them release a collab album (which many many many people are looking forward to) with no proceeds back to the labels. They may have decided to do this amongst themselves but they still need label permission, so who do you think does the accounting, Nas or Damien? Their too busy writing songs and touring and the like. I'm sure they wouldn't mind giving all the proceeds to the school in Africa, but if they do their looking at a label drop and/or a lawsuit. Nas and Damien give crazy money to charities already, especially Nas...at least their doing something with this album and its great that its a school.

yeah, it's obviously a good thing that something is going to charity. what im saying is this:

it should be more.

done.

Thats your opinion, you can't get angry at a situation because it doesn't agree with your ethical generalizations, and this isn't the place to express your distaste. Their donating to a school in Africa, its going to take a fuckload more money and time to help Africa back onto its feet than the proceeds of one album.

Thanks for saying what I just said. The conversational strategy of taking other people's ideas and making them your own is pretty awesome. And yes, this IS the place where you can talk about the article of which this thread is about?

Once a month, you make me palm-to-forehead myself with an exasperated "ugh".

What you just said, and what you have been saying in this thread is that you're angry that Nas and Damien aren't donating the entire proceeds of their new album to a school in Africa.

What I just said is that you can't be angry at their actions because they don't agree exactly with what you think should be done with their proceeds, and anyway, they already are donating to the school, something that most acts of their stature these days don't even think about doing.

If you want to talk about what should be done, America and Europe should not have exploited the continent's resources and workers to the point where they are incapable of politically maintaining a civilized society due to lack of political and monetary influence on their own motherfucking land. Nas and Damien have absolutely nothing to do with the actual problem that charity and peacekeeping has maintaining in Africa.

Next time you put the palm to your head, make sure you do it swiftly with a pair of brass knuckles on.This Message Edited On 03.03.09

Way to turn great news into a discussion about the exploitation of Africa.

Nobody was discussing the exploitation of Africa, somebody certainly mentioned it. But if I can't change the definition of words, neither can you.
