very very okay song
| |
Funny how this will be his most polarizing song
| |
way cooler video than song :/
yeah cuz most people will like it just cuz it's kendrick and he's supposed to be the best
| |
not so good
| |
very cool video I agree
| |
here's to hoping this one isn't on the album either LOL
| |
this sounds so average.....
| |
song is good but i was expecting a bit more
| |
here's to hoping this one isn't on the album either LOL [2]
forreal
it wasnt on the leaked tracklisting so i'm hoping that that wasnt fake
| |
As usual, the first album single is weird and underwhelming out of context. I'm sure in the album this'll sound better, just like Backseat Freestyle and i.
| |
not really weird just underwhelming tbh, backstreet freestyle and i kick this songs ass on their lonesomes
| |
song is weak. production is boring af.
| |
certainly one of the shittiest kendrick songs i've heard
| |
hey arcade im not annoying
| |
Chorus might be my fav part actually
| |
annoying as sin [2]
| |
I guess this is OK if it was supposed to be ironic which this feels like it but even then ehhh.. I'm not a fan (except for the video which is pretty good like everyone is saying)
| |
ive heard it twice and now i never want to hear it again
heres to hoping the new album (if there is one) is good
| |
Heard this in my shitty phone speakers at first and didn't hear any bass of course, track sounds way better with headphones
Have a couple friends that love Kendrick but they're not gonna be feeling this, it's alright cause I am
| |
its fine
| |
Song is good.
| |
this shit is whack
| |
it's aight. probably will grow on me though, some of his material has done that for me
| |
yeah i'm not feelin' this track much at all. it ain't bad but it's a step down from most of his stuff
| |
whether or not this is "just a polarizing single" like Backseat Freestyle doesn't matter
Singles are meant to be judged and to judge any future work coming out. The fact is that judging this single...it's just not very good. Either this shouldn't be on the album, or less polarizing singles should be released.
| |
not to mention that backseat freestyle kicks the shit out of this
| |
Damn this beat is annoying as hell.
| |
I feel like this is Backseat Freestyle part 2. Banging beat mixed with the irony of the song, Backseat being ironic in that it's in the point of view of a young Kendrick with hyperbolic dreams of being famous and now Humble being ironic in that it is in the point of view of a modern rapper claiming to be humble.
ALA I mean singles aren't always going to be on albums. And this is Kendrick, he always tries to throw curveballs before album releases. If this does somehow end up in the upcoming album, it will probably end up like the lead single for TPAB "i" and be a completely different version of it
| |
TVC15 basically voicing my perspective on this
| |
WICKED OR WEAKNESS
YOU GOTTA SEE THIS
WAAAAAAAAAAA
also tvc is right as usual
| |
you people act like half his songs aren't already average as fuck
| |
Love the photoshop line, thought it was gonna come across as worse when he got in the subject but that's some good body positivity
| |
This shit is dope
| |
Would listen to this over King Kunta 10/10 times.
| |
King Kunta was hot garbage. Now this...this shit slap.
| |
man, mike will made it instrumentals are always either fucking godawful or awesome
I expected a collab with Kendrick to be the second but it was the first instead
| |
I need to listen to this in a car with good ass bass
| |
Song and video kill, and yes, this song would rip in a car with good bass, windows down
| |
"King Kunta was hot garbage."
time to log out and rethink some things
| |
God that piano line is atrocious
| |
King Kunta was hot garbage. [2]

| |
This is sooo good but yeah, I'm very glad this will not be on the album. Song reminds me of those remixes Andre 3000 was doing in like 2008.
| |
I thought the song was okay. My main gripe is that fake piano in the beat, it just doesn't jive well with anything else. The video also seems a lot more ambitious than the song does.
| |
jibe
| |

jive
| |
king cunta was hot garbagio [3]
| |
Logged out, had 12 different epiphanies, and logged back in. King Kunta still garbage.
| |
This song passes the whip test. This is an undeniable banger.
| |
I don't hate this but I am so confused
| |
well, k-dot had a good run.
| |
song is mainly getting flak cuz it's kendrick, but it really isn't that bad
| |
mike will is the worst part of the song. as always.
| |
DAMN K DOT GETTIN BACK INTO THE BANGER GAME
| |
JeetJeet killing me in here.
| |
This passed the whip test? Fuck
| |
The good: He's done with the jazzy-rap stuff. The Video.
The Bad: The Production. The chorus.
Pretty underwhelming.
| |
so damn bad
| |
king kunta was hot garbage [3]
| |
King kunta is so good despite what these monkey mouth mothafuckas say
Other than the super boring piano thing I guess the song isn't horrible, hopefully it's just being ironic
| |
yeah that was shit
| |
nvm who cares
| |
no one once you have an opinion about it
| |
Yeah, King Kunta is awesome. Ya'll need to enjoy more funk. Not sure how I feel about this yet. Song's solid I guess. The video was awesome.
| |
I love the funk but King Kunta was corny as shit. The lyrics really do it no favors either. This song has me hype tho. I dig braggadocios Kenny. Plus his flow on this is great as usual. The beat could've been better but I still like it.
| |
everything this guy has done has been a 3-3.5
| |
king kunta rules
| |
Okay, but can we, like, talk about the fact that this piano-line could come straight off of an early DJ Spanish Fly tape? that's a pretty cool throwback to one of my favourite breeding grounds for music in the nineties, the Memphis rap-scene.
My opinion on this song is irrelevant. Good thing I stopped giving a shit about what people think about music.
| |
ok now that we still know nothing about the album
let's predict the average
I'm guessing it'll settle at a 3.9
| |
the whole album is supposed to be memphis-y aint that the rumour
| |
I think it is. Would be dope if that really is the case.
| |
love the beat
| |
Average song.
| |
"well, k-dot had a good run. "
Savage.
Yeah, even if it bangs, this is exactly the opposite direction I think most people expected or wanted Kendrick to go in after TPAB. Even if it's supposed to fulfil the same role as 'King Kunta' in the context of the album, that track was better than this one in every respect. Guess we'll see what comes with April though.
| |
Eh, can't see them making a video for a standalone single so it's probably gonna be on the album, holding to the hope they change it like "I" on TPAB. Song's alright. Kendrick set himself up though in The Heart 4 saying how this new album is gonna leave the game on an icepack so he's gotta pull through or he'll be a right chump.
| |
"the whole album is supposed to be memphis-y aint that the rumour"
Makes sense. K Dot did West coast on the first two, then East coast on TPAB, now he's doing something more Southern to be not just the king of both coasts but the emperor of modern hip hop. His ambition is really admirable
Also king kunta rules [2]
| |
bro if kdot puts out a memphis worship album
album of the LIFE
| |
this songs dope actually
| |
that's what I'm sayin!
| |
every tryhard negative post in here i wana quote and tell each of you to sit down
| |
song is mainly getting flak cuz it's kendrick, but it really isn't that bad [2]
it's actually decent straightforward banger tune, i won't mind a Kendrick banger album after tpab tbh and if this will be on the album it will be prob one of the weakest songs, same as the "i" single before tpab dropped (even tho that song is better on the album).
| |
This song is terrible.
| |
Misses a swing; we're only human, but I couldn't get into it.
Some parts I dug mostly annoying..
It's odd listening to Heart Part 4 than this, too trap for me.
I do like the humor he has in this tune, seems satirical.. no wonder
| |
Badass video, pretty good song, I dig it!
| |
Needz moar jazz fusion.
Not really. In fact, after a second listen, that departure is the only good thing about the new track. The chorus is just annoying and those keys are atrocious. Pretty average.
| |
The keys sound like the default keys for something called "001 - Piano" in GarageBand
| |
way better than the last track
p dang good
| |
"Eh, can't see them making a video for a standalone single so it's probably gonna be on the album"
J. Cole dropped a video for both of the stand alone singles he dropped a few months ago, with the album dropping like a week later.
| |
King Kunta was garbage guys.
Apart from the piano notes, this track absolutely slaps. Too bad The Heart pt.4 won't be on the album cause the production on that was incredible
| |
Smh. Kendrick is fire on here. this video is fucking awesome
| |
the video is dope af agreed, someone said this and I agree, way more ambitious than the song itself
| |
Pretty damn terrible track but I'm pretty sure kdot is more or less throwing dirt at the style of hip hop that he mimicking here. However, trash is still trash, even if you are memeing it
| |
Nah, this slaps hard.
| |
kendrickt no more memes pls
| |
Smh. Kendrick is fire on here. this video is fucking awesome [2]
King Kunta was garbage guys. [123456059780683985091976890189607189]
| |
King Kunta was amazing, don't kid yourselves.
| |
why does he do a high pitched voice the entire song
| |
'King Kunta was amazing, don't kid yourselves.'
WHAT'S THE YAMS!?!?!??!
| |
king kunta is fucking awful
| |
You're fucking awful.
| |
thanks
| |
its not that good of a song, getting nervous
| |
You're welcome.
| |
bretty gud song
| |
better than half of the songs on tpab
| |
at least
| |
I'd say about the same quality
| |
"trash is still trash, even if you are memeing it"
ugh
| |
I liked it. Prolly about just as much as King Kunta. They're both good but nothing amazing.
| |
great for what it is
| |
I mean Kendrick sounds fine that beat is just so fucking generic
| |
You guys are ridiculous, this sounds like a bside from O.D or Section 80. This type of song is hardly new for Kendrick.
| |
It's a banger no doubt
| |
"yeah cuz most people will like it just cuz it's kendrick and he's supposed to be the best"
I think that's a big assumption to make. Not all music listeners are so blind.
| |
ehhhhhh I think there is a little bit of that I think
not that everyone's dumb or anything, but I think everyone gives artists they already like more benefit of the doubt than they would a different artist
people trust kendrick to deliver, it's a really unique case in music right now
| |
just boring really
| |
@wwf I'll acknowledge that. One thing to consider is that sometimes, if you expect someone to be the best, you can be very critical of them as well. I hated "I" when it first came out. I had no love for the song whatsoever. I think this song is pretty good. It definitely sounds like another backseat freestyle. I feel like it'll bang in context with the album. By itself though,I think it's pretty good.
| |
i already debunked wwfs theory by shitting on king kunta itt but saying i like this
| |
ok warrior chuck u can stand down
| |
a lot worse than king kunta actually
| |
One of my least favorite songs by Kendrick is No Makeup. It sounds like a dude from Big Time Rush is on the hook. I didn't really like the beat either.
| |
Sucks
| |
That beat is fireeeeee.
| |
I love no makeup lmao
| |
just poppin by to say king kunta was garbage
| |
tbh kendrick lamar was//is//always will be garbage
| |
Pots, ftw.
| |
Never had a strong opinion on kunta but this is really unremarkable
| |
Thought this was gonna be a new Anna Kendrick song like "Cups." Disappointed.
| |
am to the pm pm to the am funk
| |
this was fucking woeful
| |
I will say that the video goes a long way towards making this song more likeable
| |
wtf you doing Kendrick?
| |
Hm. A few more listenes actually softened my opinion considearbly. That piano riff is annoying but some decent lines and I could see myself enjoying an album with this vibe, even though this song in particular is not amazing. (I think that "I" was a better single, eventhough a lot of ppl. hated on that song)
| |
Re-listening to The Blacker the Berry and wondering how Kendrick did both of these
| |
i went to my friend's party yesterday and they played this (they were counting) nine times
| |
see it's things like that which make me glad i have no friends
| |
that's only like twenty seven and a half minutes
| |
video >>> actual song
| |
This song is SO good, I love how he comes after his melodic journey through TPAB and the first thing he does is make a banger where he just spits bars. Like many people say, this is gonna be an entirely different beast in the context of his newest album. I'm actually suprised how many people are saying they don't like the song, just give it a few more listens and if you still don't like it then sit the fuck down and be humble.
| |
ok kendrick
| |
Get da fuck off my stage, I'm the sandman
| |
Oh man, are we shitting on this song like everyone did Backseat Freestyle and i? Oh boy, get me in this bitch.
| |
āIā was great and didn't deserve the hate it got.
| |
"Like many people say, this is gonna be an entirely different beast in the context of his newest album."
This is one of the dumbest fucking things that people say whenever a shit single comes out for any band/album and it never holds any weight when the actual album comes out. A shit song is a shit song.
| |
^this
I cannot cite a single example of a song sounding better because its "in the context of the album" this is a common excuse from people who dont want to admit theyre fav rapper put out a genuinely shit song
| |
People are referring to this like the next Backseat Freestyle /// King Kunta
but those are just genuinely better songs in general(well okay ~maybe~ kunta is debatable but still). People just didn't like Backseat because it made Kendrick look like a douche at first not in the context of the album, but it was and always will be a good song in general. No matter the context of this, the song is just _bad_ as a song.
| |
"Gotta wait for the album to drop to really know how good the song is " with logic like this why even bother listening.
| |
exactly. I mean singles are meant to be judged by their own.
| |
you can't polish a turd
| |
Just wait til the albums out bro this song will sound fire
| |
yeah Kendrick is all about holism being the deep philosophical individual that he is, the labels really have to coerce him into releasing singles and music videos. I read an interview where he stated that he doesn't even put any effort into the individual songs - only the album itself.
| |
I read somewhere that he snokes
| |
"People are referring to this like the next Backseat Freestyle /// King Kunta"
It is though
| |
wtf is snoking
| |
#2 on the hot 100 oh shit Kendrick selling out
| |
