Born of Osiris Reign again

2017-01-12 by betray | 76 Comments
American progressive metalcore veterans Born of Osiris have released a track from the highly-anticipated re-recording of the bands debut EP, The New Reign.

The re-recording, entitled Eternal Reign is expected February 24th on Sumerian Records.

Sumerian founder Ash Avildsen had this to say about Eternal Reign:

โ€œThe New Reign was a seminal album for both Born Of Osiris and Sumerian Records. 10 years later, it is getting a well-deserved rebirth as they have re-created it from scratch. I believe fans, old and new, will be excited to hear these songs come to life re-imagined both musically and production wise."

Born of Osiris guitarist Lee McKinney offered comments on the new(old) track:

โ€œWe are beyond excited to break the silence on what we've been up to this past year. 10 years ago we were seniors in high school in Chicago and spent our spring break recording a record that we had no idea would massively impact our lives. The New Reign was something we all believed in, and for that reason we were all anxious and curious to see how it would be taken.
This past year we decided to re-record our debut. I know what you're thinking.... "they took the album and sent it to someone else to re-mix / re-master and they are going to re-package and re-sell it." Wrong! We went to the studio, re-recorded the entire thing, changed guitar riffs/drum parts/bass/vocals and even recorded a new song that I wish made it onto the original version 10 years ago. This song "Glorious Day" was made before some of the other songs that made the original recording.

I must say, it's crazy to still be in our 20's and be on a 10 year anniversary. I'm so thankful for this... and I must thank the fans for supporting us every step of the way, as well as Sumerian Records for believing in us all of this time.
So to go along with such a monumental occasion, we give you "The New Reign Tour" to go along with this release. We are going to play this record for you now that we as a band and production are better and tighter than ever. Join us, VOLUMES, and some more new friends on what should be one of the most meaningful Born of Osiris tours to date.โ€

Wow this sucks.

More djent crap with spacey themes and terrible mixing. Where's the fucking bass? Like there's no low-end at all.

This suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Can they even replicate the album at all??? I guess I'll have to listen, but I don't think they've got the balls they had when this was recorded initially.

I love the riffs from 1:22 onward. I'm wondering why they left it off TNR.

2way tie between Discovery and AHP. The New Reign is second best. Soulsphere follows afterwards. Pure facts. Fuck TWDA period.

This is the best song they've put out in a while imo.

A re-recording of the ep would have been nice 5 years ago. Now.... not so sure. Their production chops have significantly dwindled post-Discovery.

FUUUUUUUUCK this new track is fantastic whoa. That lead at the end is one the best they've ever done.

Ugh, makes me even more sad as to why they don't sound like this anymore. They were at the their best with TNR and AHP and with this excellent modern produced track, I'm really looking forward to the re-recording.

i hate when bands do this. I never jammed the Rareform re-release and listened to that and The New Reign non stop back in the day. Song was pretty cool though, I dig the shorter song length.

Can't w8 for more treble-rich, cheese-synth, angst-filled chug-fests.

That being said there's fleeting moments of wonderful punchy melody. But too few and far between in their discography for me. Might check this out.

Dude the Rareform re-release is better than the original. It's literally the only re-release worth a damn from a modern day metal band.

Hard to say if this re-release is gonna be any better than its original, but that new song is certainly worth something.

Fuck, the Rareform re-release is really a enormously lucky thing !
The songwriting is great and got even better with the re-release, some aspects and parts that have been changed or added bring so much more fun into some songs and makes them even better. It just adds the final touch. Also, the way grant (the vocalist before anthony) placed his shouts fits just perfect to the grooves. Then the time where this album happened is perfect for it too. Its a perfect blend between progressive metalcore, djent and any other modern metal genres for these days. And now it still feels like a real classic in my ears with these different types of metal influences but still modern as well.
Furthermore, the production fits perfect. Its not overproduced, streight to the point but rough enough to hear the authentic playing.

Im really looking forward for the BOO re-release, but to be honest, i dont expect a similar lucky release
