If Rubin's production, James' inability to write a decent lyric, Lars' sloppy drumming, and Kirk's wah pedal don't ruin the album per usual, they should call it quits immediately and act as if it's their comeback swansong.

This has been the longest time between studio albums for Metallica, with Death Magnetic having been released eight years ago in 2008.

As a producer, Rick has made phenomenal albums but as a mixer the dude has basically committed crimes against humanity

It's still funny how Muse have made fun of Rick's loudness war tendencies yet they have some of the worst produced/mixed albums I've heard

Rick Rubin sucks. The motherfucker gets paid to sit his fat ass on a couch and give his opinion, which usually sucks. If anything, he has been slowly ruining the sound of a lot of good bands.

Death Magnetic was a great album only massively hindered by the godawful production; but even then there's plenty of ways to listen to a far better sounding version of the album

Someone who knows of a link to the mp3s from the Guitar Hero: Metallica version of the album should let the rest of us know, as I've read that the versions for the game aren't hindered by compression or the loudness war.

They were good because almost every solo section on the Black Album is in half time or something, so pentatonic always sounds killer over that imo haha
