Dammit, I really want to check this out, but I can't while I'm at work.
| |
It's okay
| |
This makes me very excited about the full album. It's still Gojira but there's some experimentation in there on their usual core sound. Very nice when the clean vocals came in on around 3 minutes and very unexpected! Also Joe still sounds as awesome as ever on his usual harsh pitched vocals.
| |
nice. really dug it
| |
Pulled out my phone to check it out. Pretty good. I'm very interested in the new album.
| |
Interesting new take, looking forward for the whole release...
| |
very excited to hear the album, great song
| |
Poor. Korn-ish guitar is just out of place.
| |
Catchy stuff, really different for Gojira.
| |
i wanna hear that song they teased in the beginning
nice song though
| |
Eh, it tries to be catchy but it doesn't really succeed at it imho, maybe I was too hyped. Drumming is as cool as always though.. Hope it grows a bit. Clean vocals bit on the final bridge is somewhat weak and probably too studio-tweaked for my tastes, I'm not a huge fan of it. Last twenty seconds though are cool
| |
Okay everyone on thePRP loved it, so I was wondering what was wrong with me.
But it does feel underwhelming. Funny someone said Korn-ish because there was a part of the song that when the 2nd guitar kicked in I thought about Korn and asked myself why couldn't they do something like this?
But for Gojira standards it came up a bit short IMO. Got to keep listening though.
| |
It is growing on me.
| |
Stupid nu-metal guitar riffs, extremely underwhelming verse/chorus structure. Pretty god fucking awful.
| |
Song is pretty good, if a little Korn-y.
Really hoping for more clean vocals though, they were pretty sweet.
| |
Pretty disappointing coming from them. It's not bad, but this doesn't come close to their previous material.
| |
Underwhelming.
| |
I like it, not really the usual Gojira but it's catchy and I think could bring more fans in. Let's just hope the complex heavy hitters are still going to be on this album.
| |
It's a great song.
| |
Was ok, production felt kind of weak. No heft to it. Riff was pretty average, I hope the rest gets better.
| |
this better be the weakest and most radio-friendly song on the album
| |
lol
| |
a little disappointing to be honest. I'm down for it to be catchy; this just didn't work too well. Its not bad. Its just kinda lol.
Repeated the chorus and the opening riff too much. Too simple to warrant such repetition. Have full grasp of the rhythm/melody the first time I hear it. Needs a lot more atmosphere to make it work effectively in my opinion.
| |
the video doesn't help the song at all. if i just heard the song maybe it wouldn't feel so hilarious, but that 90s trapped in a room atmosphere is just so tacky
| |
Let's be honest, Gojira have always struggled to make convincing music videos.
Not getting the Nu-metal vibes at all, if anything the chuggy groove is very Pantera reminiscent.
Album will rule and song rules, the band stated they were trying something different which, for a lot of people, is a welcome idea.
| |
Gotta agree on the guitars not kicking as much as they should. I thought the vocals were ok though. It's a decent song.
| |
Vocals are great.
The mix does feel kinda empty but that's to be expected, normally everyone is used to the pummelling thickness of the bands guitars.
| |
damn was expecting better after that tease. 6/10
| |
6/10..almost weak
| |
This is a good song. Not sure what everyone is bitching about.
| |
"This is a good song. Not sure what everyone is bitching about."
Agreed.
| |
It's a more accessible Gojira, but that does not necessarily mean a worse Gojira.
Actually, after that opening riff the song really gets going. And even that opening riff isn't a big deal because...well...have you even HEARD Gojira?
Great song. Pumped for the album.
| |
To me Gojira have always written just-a-little-oversimplistic riffs (with several truly awesome exceptions though) but it worked on albums like From Mars to Sirius or The Way of All Flesh when the songs were long and had a somewhat random structure, but starting on that latter album and carrying on L'Enfant Sauvage, they simplified their song structures removing any progressive element from them which made the overepeated simplistic riffs shine in all their dullness. Now they remove the heaviness and we arrive at a song like Stranded with two "nothing-special" riffs and some chugging repeated non-stop.
I would be lying if I said it's bad. It's ok. But all the things that I liked about the band are disappearing one by one and are not replaced by anything better.
I'm sure it'll work better on the full album though.
| |
I'm with Kevin. That snippet from before sounded really original, and not just for them. This sounds like they're too afraid to go in a new direction but dont want to keep doing what theyve been doing. Hopefully this is an exception for the album and the rest sounds fresh. Was really looking forward to a new sound form these guys. In my opinion one of the few good metal bands out right now
| |
This will be a fine change of pace if it follows some huge Art of Dying / Into the Wilderness slab of classic Gojira.
| |
Also, if they are trying new things like they say, this is probably the designated catchy single and the other tracks will most likely be more interesting. Only one way to find out however.
| |
poo
| |
That main riff would have been cooler without the annoying effect on the guitars. Clean vocals were actually a highlight for me and I'd say that was the strongest part of the whole song
| |
It definitely makes a lot of sense that they used this song based on the descriptions I've read in an article 2-3 weeks ago. This is probably the closest song to a combination of their oldest stuff and their newest stuff. That's my assumption til I hear more.
| |
I dig it tbh
| |
I'll always miss their Sirius and WOAF days but atleast this song is more fun than most of the songs on Infant Sausage. Good stuff.
| |
"This is probably the closest song to a combination of their oldest stuff and their newest stuff."
if this is halfway between, then I want nothing to do with the new stuff
| |
hmm a french band calling their album "Magma"... HAMATAI?
| |
GOJIRA ISS DE HUNDIN
| |
i can dig this, glad they are changing things up
| |
Good song! But I agree, the soft sung part could've been better.
| |
The vocals are much less harsher than before, which I don't mind.
But the drumming and the guitar riffs have been simplified a lot... not impressed.
| |
less harsher
| |
its okish. gets great when his rythm guitar kicks in in the middle of the track.
| |
The vocals sound exactly the same to me as their last three or four albums except for obviously the clean section right at the end... Nobody else thinks that?
| |
Why does everyone around here seem to think that simpler music is bad? That's like the main complain with the song.
| |
it's kinda boring when they play the same two okay things for the third or fourth time in a four-minute span. simple is fine but this is a riff and a chorus stretched too thin.
| |
This album is gonna kick ass
| |
Don't know what people are seeing in this at all. Pretty boring
| |
This isn't amazing by any means, but I enjoyed it.
Very excited to hear the new album.
| |
great song, i enjoyed it, ending gives me some slight Devy vibes
| |
main riff is literally something godsmack would put out
| |
band should stop sharing.
| |
"hmm a french band calling their album "Magma"... HAMATAI?"
huh?
| |
Ocean Planet is basically the same riff for 5+ minutes but it's rad as fuck. This is not that rad. It's not awful, but it's underwhelming for them.
| |
anarchist, look up Zeuhl
| |
Pretty lame compared to their previous work.
| |
Sad but trueeeeeee
| |
Korn/nu metal comparisons are fucking stupid, doesn't even sound that different from their old stuff. Ending part sounded like mastodon, let's not get out of hand with our comparisons. Really enjoy the song, still hyped.
| |
who the actual fuck thought that high note was a good idea
| |
sucks. rip gojira
| |
Because one single means the rest of the album will be like this.
| |
@JasonCarne "Ocean Planet is basically the same riff for 5+ minutes but it's rad as fuck."
I thought you were speaking of Flying Whales and its incredibly not repetitive repetitive introduction.
| |
It sounds like the best song Metallica never put on the black album.
| |
Love this, great stuff.
| |
Don't get the Korn comparison. Riff sounds more like FBD era Pantera.
| |
Ok song. They could really write better riffs than this. The only thing that really jumped out at me were the pretty neat drum fills at the end.
| |
Yeah this is just ok unfortunately. The first teaser they released sounded amazing though so I'm hoping the album is still excellent overall
| |
and this is supposed to be emotional? dull, typical song, bummer. not bad bad, but eh. it's metalcore af too, but it's s boring it's not charming
| |
it's like djent on Ambien
| |
Fuck this rules
| |
Not too sure how the hell they're gonna top their last album, but this is off to a pretty damn good start.
| |
"In my opinion one of the few good metal bands out right now"
Listen to more metal before you start saying this sorta bullshit
| |
Shut up
| |
Random remark: I think Joe Duplantier sounds like Wayne Static on some part of Liquid and The Fall off L'enfant sauvage.
| |
I dunno. It's nothing I haven't heard before.
| |
this is more like American Godzilla than Gojira
| |
^this
| |
Never really listened to these guys much before, but judging by this song, I really want to hear more. It's so damn catchy and I can't stop listening to it.
| |
"this is more like American Godzilla than Gojira"
LOL so true
| |
Main riff is tedious and wah pedal is annoying af. Chorus also seems so awkwardly disjointed from the verse. Cmmmoooonnnn Gojira pls don't die
| |
It's a bit better upon repeated listens but still not their best work.
| |
Where's the wall of sound?
| |
I believe it's a whammy pedal
| |
Vibin to this so hard m/
| |
man those two singles are so amazing.
| |
