Mutemath debut new track

2015-10-19 by CynicalComplex | 15 Comments
Alternative/blues/electronic/postrock/potpourri outfit Mutemath have released a third track from their upcoming album, Vitals, via a Wall Street Journal blog. The song, entitled 'Light Up', features a synth-based sound that contrasts with their largely blues-infused previous album, Odd Soul.

The track can be streamed from the WSJ blog at the following link:

Two other album tracks from Vitals, 'Used To' and 'Monument', can be streamed on the band's Soundcloud.

If you liked their first two albums, you'll probably enjoy these. If you liked Odd Soul, you probably won't as much. Not really sure how to feel about the track, to be honest.

I remember wondering what the hell they were thinking when Odd Soul (the track) first dropped, and it turned out that it was one of the worst tracks; the rest of the album turned out to be super-tight. Kinda praying the same thing happens here; maybe they just suck at picking singles.

Typical was a pretty good single, though I agree this song is not my favorite. I'm getting fed up with all the pop bands jumping on disco/80s pop bandwagon. I liked their more radiohead-y sound early on.

Hmm, I'm a big fan of all their albums but this is pretty weak. Sounds like a flavour-of-the-month radio hit

I definitely appreciate that they are still willing to change their sound up so radically. Song is not that great though. It's okay.

I really, really enjoy this band. I wouldn't call it anywhere near their best but I dig it. Odd Soul was a step back in my opinion, Vitals is shaping up to be much better.

See this band live.

They're "potpourri" for this album. Last album they were "kitchen sink" when I wrote the article.

Next album will probably be "chameleonic." :p
