Disagreed. Their songwriting (both whole song structures and individual sections) is clearly experimental; its complexity and degree of appropriation shows an almost aggressive desire to push boundaries. They did stay within a certain comfort zone for their entire career, but it is highly unlikely that anyone could write songs like Summoning Scenes and Chromatic Chimera without an ethos based upon innovation and exploration.

hawks they actually were what the fuck? they were a great band with two excellent albums and a fantastic EP. certainly the best avant-garde metal has to offer prove me wrong. they wrote the best melodies, had the best female vocals, most creative blending of genres/sounds. the main thing is the melodies, my god the melodies. particularly on Fables. and that song In Velvet Coffins We Slept. genius.

I hadn't heard of them till I read this post and have only heard the first half of Fables, but wow this was an incredible group. A little like a fresher more enjoyable BtBaM with more symphonic and experimental leanings.
I hope the members cook up some good stuff in the future.

When RHCP was first formed their goal was to create soundtracks for gay sexy orgies/parties, they succeeded. I don't like the band big deal.
