Monster Magnet's Mastermind redux

2015-07-25 by Raul Stanciu STAFF | 4 Comments
After rearranging Last Patrol, delivering the results under the title Milking The Stars, Dave Wyndorf & Co. will present this fall a whole new perspective of their 2010 LP, Mastermind, renamed Cobras and Fire (The Mastermind Redux). The compilation will be released on October 9 through Napalm Records.

The band have debuted the first reworked tune, entitled 'Mastermind 69' on Brooklyn Vegan's official website. It can be accessed here - http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2015/07/monster_magnet_8.html

Cobras and Fire tracklist:

1. She Digs That Hole
2. Watch Me Fade
3. Mastermind ‘69
4. Hallucination Bomb
5. Gods and Punks
6. The Titan
7. When The Planes Fall From the Sky
8. Ball of Confusion
9. Time Machine
10. I live Behind the Paradise Machine Evil Joe Barresi's Magnet Mash Vol.1

I hope they release a new album next year. These rearrangements are cool, but don't actually bring anything new.
I consider Mastermind their weakest record to date, I hope this project will make it better.

Yeah not sure how to feel about these news. On the one hand, if the album is good, then I guess everything's fine. But on the other hand, it seems to me that maybe they're low on inspiration and rehashing older material.

Anyway, if an album of theirs needs more work it's Mastermind so let's see how it goes.

I mean, if any of their albums could do with being re-done, it's certainly those four bland and inoffensive hard rock albums they pumped out after Powertrip.

Track is okay. I'm really not feeling the retro vibe as much as I did with Milking the Stars, which is a wonderful album by the way, and the only really apparent difference is the higher-tuned guitars. Can't see this album being any better than Mastermind itself, since the songs redone on Milking were well-written to begin with.
