James Horner dead at 61 2015-06-23 by Brendan Schroer STAFF | 19 Comments | Widely acclaimed American film composer James Horner, known for his scores to works such as Titanic, Avatar, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, The Land Before Time, and many others, has just died at 61 years of age. Horner was piloting his plane over Los Padres National Forest, California when he crashed; he was the only person aboard the aircraft.
Horner was widely known as one of the most prolific and acclaimed composers of modern filmmaking, receiving two Academy Awards and Golden Globe Awards among other accomplishments, as well as writing over 100 film scores overall. His work was heavily characterized by Celtic and electronic influences, often combining these elements with more orchestral and bombastic moments that were displayed in scores such as Commando or those of the Zorro films. But one thing that made him especially beloved among film buffs and fellow composers was the wide range of film genres he scored music for, including drama, action, comedy, adventure, romance, and many more.
His assistant Sylvia Patrycja had this to say:
"A great tragedy has struck my family today, and I will not be around for a while. I would like some privacy and time to heal. We have lost an amazing person with a huge heart, and unbelievable talent. He died doing what he loved. Thank you for all your support and love and see you down the road. Love Sylvia".
