Album is gonna slay. Not sure if it will top Act III tho
| |
way to make me think they released a different new song, smh
| |
"Not sure if it will top Act III tho"
really? after one song you're not sure?
| |
That album art is so nice.
| |
Not basing it off the song. im basing it off the fact that Act III is my favorite album by them.
| |
tsk...mmmmmmm hmmmm
| |
bully
| |
Act III was great, but Act II was better. After listening to this I feel like it's going to be on par with Act II.
| |
Holy shitballs!!! If this is an indication of what the whole album is gonna be like, this is gonna be amazing!
| |
this is already a top 10 song for TDH. really hyped
| |
Casey's got one fucking hell of an ear
| |
single slaps extra hard
| |
I think Casey has a case for being one of the best musicians of the generation, despite not being recognized on a huge scale.
| |
What a day, what a lovely day.
| |
that's funny because they kept talking about how rad Mad Max was when I saw them live
| |
I can't get into this band at all tbh. They seem like they'd be right up my alley too.
| |
I'm still trying to decide whether I should preorder that swamp green vinyl... Anyone here do it?
| |
I don't purchase vinyls. They're kind of a waste of money unless if you had something to play them on.
| |
Honestly, I just like how they look. Cool to display. Plus, it comes with a free download.
| |
Awesome song, may be one of my faves from them
| |
chorus sounds like katy perrys firework
| |
how?
| |
Yeah, you've got me...
| |
And Vinyl holds its value and buying just digital is crazy cause really you don't own shit
| |
people really calling this top 10 TDH? wow
| |
I'm not sure I would put it THAT high
| |
Top 20 easily though. Did you order the vinyl tcat?
| |
Yeah I love all casey's stuff but I wouldn't consider this top 10 at all. Nice song but yeah, not quite getting the OMG AMAZEBALLS feels. Album will definitely slay though.
| |
not even top 50
| |
Seriously? I loved it, but I only listened to it like 3 times. We'll see how it holds up i guess
| |
it's great and all but nowhere close to the level they have achieved in the past
| |
idk man, that chorus is one of the best choruses I think they've done. the first four/five minutes of the song are absolutely phenomenal
| |
This was nice and probably convinced me to listen to the album when it comes out, but it's still too theatrical/dramatic for my liking. I think I'll always prefer the heavier approach from The Color Spectrum's Red/Black/Orange EPs.
| |
agreed with Sowing even for TDH it's way too over-dramatic and cheesy and holy fuck it needed trimming. Good song but wouldn't put it above any song from Act 2 or 3 tbh
| |
First few minutes of the songs great, the rest is fan service.
| |
top 15 for sure
| |
Not sure where I'd put this song in my rankings but for the people who think it needs trimming, I get it. However, I think in the context of the album, it won't feel that tiresome.
| |
"the rest is fan service."
how in the hell is it fan service?
| |
I think the band breaks up after this album, at least for a while
| |
I agree w/ Sowing that red black orange is probably my favorite from these guys aside from the heavier tracks from acts 2 and 3. The receiving end of sirens is the best stuff from Casey though.
| |
Damn, this is actually a fun listen.
| |
i think it gets a lot more interesting after the first couple minutes
| |
amazing song
| |
It seems to me that people who got into this band later REALLY love the color stuff and while its good it doesn't even touch the acts. Migrant had like 5 great songs but still it will always be the odd album out. These acts are the really meat of the work.
I remember listening to Act 2 when it first came out and hearing Procession and The Lake and The River and being immediately hooked. Aside from the first half of Act 3 they haven't touched that feeling again until now. This song is fantastic, and with its 3 musical call backs to older songs is almost an acknowledgement of the fans who have been sticking around for a long time now.
Also there is no way they'll be breaking up soon. Casey already made a promise on the rest of the Acts happening soon.
| |
'This was nice and probably convinced me to listen to the album when it comes out, but it's still too theatrical/dramatic for my liking. I think I'll always prefer the heavier approach from The Color Spectrum's Red/Black/Orange EPs.'
This is exactly what I thought about the Act albums when I listened to them. I'll have to check out the color eps
| |
Um... Finally got a chance to listen to this stoned.
It's a masterpiece.
| |
It's fan service because after the second chorus it literally only reprises older songs.
| |
Not literally, but close.
| |
orrr maybe they just decided to reprise old songs as a way to connect the story in a way they find interesting? why does that have to be described as fan service?
| |
how is this fan service? This is pretty much how they've always been.
| |
theyve always done that. a bunch of the lyrics in act 2 are lifted from act 1 as well. its great for continuity of story and theme.
| |
Think a little, gang.. Like no shit it's for continuity, but why else would he put out this song first.. I'm describing it as fan service because it's the first showed song from an album that's been considered overdue by fans for 6 years and is theoretically the worst song they could have chose for a single, oh, and half the song references older songs?? That's odd, don't you think? If that's not meant to appease the fans (or maybe, perhaps "service" them), then??
| |
"oh, and half the song references older songs?? That's odd, don't you think?"
It's a concept album series, it's supposed to be like that you dunce.
| |
there's a difference between referencing lyrics aka Vital Vessle/calling back to old stuff for the sake of a concept and doubling the length of a song with exact replicas of previous instrumentals. It's not like it was necessary for the reprisals of the Bitter Suite to occur for the sake of the story
| |
I don't think Casey wrote the song just for the sake of fan service, but choosing it as the first single was definitely a decision he made with the longtime fans in mind.
| |
isn't that the reason why you release a first single, so that your fans and other people can hear what the album is going to sound like? I mean if people like his other stuff more than that's fine but I feel like this is a band who would have the same fans since the beginning.
| |
there's my point muppelope.
compared to waves or wait, which are the clear singles of the album they put out this huge 9 minute song, reefed with reprises. it's obviously not to get traction on the radio and get new listeners is it?
and no shit it's a concept album, ffs, if you can't put context to anything, why are you arguing?
| |
agree with Zeiu
| |
i really dig this song
| |
they're coming out with a new song tomorrow! :D
| |
"Casey, I'm curious on why you chose this song to put out first, compared to Wait or Waves which seem like the obvious singles?"
"Hey there....
I think the key is that this isn't a traditional album, and this isn't a traditional single approach. Putting out this song first is much more about reaching out to fans of the band... more than attracting new people to the band.
I've heard a few people say that elements of the song were 'fan service', which is simultaneously a compliment and criticism, I feel... but in reality - this was one of the first tracks we really dug our teeth into while writing the record - and it is also about a pivotal moment in the story - so all of the musical allusions to previous and future songs/motifs arose from a place of genuine purpose.
It was also about putting my foot down about the type of band this is. There are going to be 3 to 3 1/2 minute songs in the band's discography - there are going to be mindlessly poppy songs - there will undoubtedly be choruses that are singable... but the purpose of the band is to be creative and organic, not to hit it big on the radio - and releasing a 9 minute track feels like the right first step to reclaiming that identity."
| |
so that basically explains the fan service
| |
interesting considering that this is the longest song in the album
| |
new song

"It's not like it was necessary for the reprisals of the Bitter Suite to occur for the sake of the story"
And how do you know it isn't? Many people are speculating that Ms. Leading might return in this part of the story. That is reason enough to reprise The Bitter Suites, and the fact that there are more Bitter Suites in the upcoming album. Of course there is somewhat fan service going on but i'm sure there is a lot more to it. Even if it's not "necessary" why does it have to be? As said earlier they've done shit like this since the beginning. People are bitching about it now... why? Because it's more obvious than usual?
