DAMN YOU I JUST POSTED THIS . Please delete my submission.
What do you make of the song so far? I am going to give it a few more listens later and mull it over.
|
| |
better than anything on marrow or faust that's for sure. color me impressed, i was really expecting this to be lackluster and kind of shit
sounds kind of like something off pale folklore but iupdated to their new sort of attitude, which is pretty damn cool honestly
|
| |
damn guys this is really good
|
| |
so excited! sounds good a couple minutes in
|
| |
HYPE TRAIN AT MAX SPEED
|
| |
Cool cover art too
|
| |
Wow this day just got a whole lot better
|
| |
I really like it, improves on repeated listen.
|
| |
Very nice track although is it just me or do a couple of transitions sound a little awkward?
|
| |
This is awesome!
|
| |
Agree with you Scream, the transitions do sound kinda awkward. But this is 100% better than aything off Marrow imo.
Never did hear Faustian Echoes.
|
| |
I'm liking this.
|
| |
never really listened to this band
Liking this song well enough though
|
| |
not digging the marrow hate itt
into the painted grey? ghost of the midwinter's fires? fuckin black lake nidstang?
|
| |
Marrow really grew on me with time. My least fave of theirs but not by much. Listened to this one twice already and I liked it more the second time so we'll see how it goes. Hopefully the rest of the album flows a little better
|
| |
Damn, great song title for sure.
|
| |
aight, gonna check this out.
|
| |
We've yet to hear the rusty old railroad spike, cow pelvis bone, electric saw, zither or waterphone
either.. going to be interesting.
|
| |
cover isn't bad, but yeah i'm not jizzing over it or anything
|
| |
Where's noctus
|
| |
well its pretty bland. not really bad but ugh can't describe it.
|
| |
3.5/5
Verse riffing was a snooze-fest, intro and outro were excellent, vocals were a bit restrained and the tempo hardly changed at all. It wasn't as dynamic as Agalloch can be, nor as daring. It's better than almost all of Marrow, though, which is good.
|
| |
"alternate link for nigs having trouble with bitchfork:"
i love you.
|
| |
Dekker's drumming is noticeably tighter on this than on Marrow. Really enjoyed it.
|
| |
It wasn't as dynamic
!
|
| |
Let me rephrase: everything but the first minute or two and the last minute were not dynamic.
|
| |
Fucking rules. Immensely pumped.
|
| |
basically it rules hard when they aren't trying to focus so much on black metal
like most agalloch though this is getting better the more I listen
|
| |
Dekker's drumming is noticeably tighter on this than on Marrow. Really enjoyed it.
nah bro its just better production
|
| |
"nah bro its just better production"
that's entirely possible.
|
| |
awesome
|
| |
bretty good
|
| |
it sounds like Agalloch.. Not much more to say really..
|
| |
nothing they haven't done before
having said that it obviously rules
|
| |
fjhfkfrjkkkknhfdehyeerhhr gotta listen hard
|
| |
Haughm just said about this song "there are A LOT of stylistic twists and turns on this album. This song does not represent it as a whole - none of the songs do. I actually hate these previews because of this. We never write just a collection of songs with the same vibe"
|
| |
where'd you see that crysis
|
| |
He commented in the thread on his FB page.
https://www.facebook.com/pages/John-Haughm/151181848317762
|
| |
Yeah that's where I've been getting all my info so far
|
| |
i like how he said "and no its not the "centerpiece" of the album"
|
| |
was expecting crysis to hate this
was surprised
|
| |
Why? These guys are one of my top 3 favorite bands, I have two of their albums at a 5 and one at a
4.5. Marrow was just a fluke.
And the more I listen to this track the more I'm enjoying it.
|
| |
on a whim
|
| |
its ok
|
| |
damn where are the people that actually liked marrow?
|
| |
all dead, crysis killed them
|
| |
noctus will be here soon enough!
|
| |
with or without his head?
|
| |
[:
:]
|
| |
i knew it all along u are noctus
|
| |
I liked Marrow, it's their worst album but it's still really good. Feels weird saying worst though because that implies it was bad.
|
| |
whoaaaaa slow down
|
| |
The first two songs on Marrow were great and the rest were good. About as 4.0 as 4.0s get.
|
| |
They rule, there ya go.
|
| |
listen to ashes some more
|
| |
Awesome song, my body is definitely ready.
|
| |
neat
|
| |
Yes this is great.
|
| |
Reminds me considerably of Pale Folklore.
|
| |
agreed
|
| |
amazing song
|
| |
fucking amazing
|
| |
omg made my day
|
| |
Why is this in my feed? I don't even know who Agalloch is
|
| |
lol leave sput
|
| |
3.4/5
|
| |
it was good
|
| |
I see some Pale Folklore influence here but honestly I don't think it sounds like it that much. Pale Folklore is much darker than this song is, is more melodic, not as overtly heavy especially in the verses, and has a better sense of movement. It takes a note from Pale Folklore, but this song is rather different from anything they've done, as have all their albums been.
|
| |
yeah it kind of reminds me of pale folklore too. Gotta limit my listening so I don't get burned out on the song before the album!
|
| |
Pale Folklore just seems like it operates on a larger scale than this track
|
| |
yeah the blast beat part in this is kind of bad but everything that surrounds it is pretty awesome
|
| |
Marrow rules stop being wrong Crysis
[:
|
| |
What did you think of this track?
|
| |
Found this boring like the rest of their work, ah well.
|
| |
on my fifth listen and i don't think that much of it, i mean it's okay but not much more
i think how crysis feels about marrow is how i feel about this
but it'll probably grow, i didn't like faustian echoes at first
|
| |
Track is really solid, good stuff
|
| |
oh look i was mentioned before i haven't been forgotten about!! [:
|
| |
"basically it rules hard when they aren't trying to focus so much on black metal"
true. love the folk oriented parts from their first 3 more than the black metal ones. they are just better at it.
|
| |
This sounds like a less lively Pale Folklore to me but I think it may grow on me
|
| |
"i think how crysis feels about marrow is how i feel about this"
Surprised to hear you say that, to be honest. What makes you think that?
|
| |
because it's just not doing it for me, i suppose. i need more time with it i guess.
|
| |
Love the song! Sounds like something lifted off the Ashes Against the Grain sessions.

You've just pointed out something they've always done throughout their career. But that's the charm with this band and I love how some of their older songs really don't give a fuck in creating perfect transitions. Makes them feel more human if you ask me.
|
| |
Holy fuck, I'm loving this
|
| |
I swear Aesop Dekker has done awesome stuff with this band. Love that drummer to death!
|
| |
The cover isn't too far from that joke dbz cover is it haha
|
| |
feels kinda disjounted on the first listen-through. I'll give it another listen in a while.
|
| |
Reminds me of Pale Folklore, which is awesome.
|
| |
It's like a mix of Pale Folklore and Ashes, their 2 best albums. Jamming it for the 3rd time in a row, can't get enough
|
| |
Goddamn. Agalloch simpy can't do wrong.
|
| |
I swear Aesop Dekker has done awesome stuff with this band. Love that drummer to death!
I really dig him as well. After seeing them live I felt sorry for his snare.
|
| |
I've listened to this 6 times already..
|
| |
so have i and it isn't growing on me at all
i hope it makes sense in the context of the album because otherwise, oh dear...
|
| |
I honestly thought it was a little boring after the first listen but I'm absolutely loving it now
|
| |
I really dig him as well. After seeing them live I felt sorry for his snare.
Hahaha I definitely here ya. He is a mighty abuser of the high pitched snare but he pounds the snot out of his kit. Listen to him on Vhol's s/t.
|
| |
Wow.
YES.
I am pumped, but I wish this had came out if Autumn. It's going to feel weird listening to this in the Spring/Summer.
|
| |
i'm underwhelmed. there's no payoff, other than the decent outro.
|
| |
The entire song is the payoff.
|
| |
pretty solid. new record should be pretty good.
|
| |
It's never a good idea to judge an Agalloch album off one song though, pretty sure it will be even better when heard with everything else.
|
| |
Agalloch V: Le Jerkening
|
| |
This track is definitely a throwback to Pale Folklore.
Brilliant.
|
| |
its agalloch so yeah, it ruled.
|
| |
Wizard unpredictable as usual
But I've always loved everything they do.
|
| |
"basically it rules hard when they aren't trying to focus so much on black metal"
i agree for the most part, but Faustian Echoes was fucking great and that was probably the most black metal thing theyve done.
|
| |
Is legit
|
| |
The complete track list was released this morning, and the other song titles are pretty cool too.
|
| |

edit: nvm found it
1. Birth and Death of the Pillars of Creation
2. (serpens caput)
3. The Astral Dialogue
4. Dark Matter Gods
5. Celestial Effigy
6. Cor Serpentis (the sphere)
7. Vales Beyond Dimension
8. Plateau of the Ages
9. (serpens cauda)
|
| |
http://pitchfork.com/reviews/tracks/16772-agalloch-celestial-effigy/
the stream here is higher quality
i'm starting to like it a bit more but john's clean vocals really aren't doing it for me on this track
|
| |
did you just relink the news article's stream?
|
| |
Pretty good on first listen, ending was great. But it didn't blow me away or anything. Hopefully it'll grow with more listens. Will listen again later of course.
|
| |
I liked the little choir sounding part, wish it was higher in the mix though.
|
| |
dumb noctus
|
| |
lmao oops
i thought the op linked to the soundcloud one
i just woke up when i posted that haha
:]
|
| |
Birth and Death of the Pillars of Creation
i usually find agalloch's adolescent pretentiousness kind of charming but goddamn that is one retarded track name
|
| |
Where did find out the track titles etc. Hyp?
|
| |
i think they posted them on facebook but someone linked them further up in the thread
|
| |
The Astral Dialogue is a sick name though
|
| |
yeah but damn i hope some of these lyrics have the nightfall call to them like a river of shadows ill probably 5 it then
|
| |
i'd 5 it hard if they did something like that again
IT CAME TO ME WITH THE CRY OF A THOUSAND RAVENS THAT BLACKENED THE SKY AS THEY TOOK FLIGHT AND SANK THE SOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
|
| |
Apparently the guy from Musk Ox wrote the acoustic instrumentals so that should be nice
|
| |
OH GREAT SERPENT OF THE SKY
ONE WHO SLITHERS THROUGH THE CELESTIAL VOID
IN WHICH MY BLACK SOUL SEARCHES THROUGH ETERNITY
LAMENTING THE CRIES OF THOUSANDS OF DYING STARS
AS THEIR BLOOD FILLS THE HEAVENS TO CONSTRUCT A NEW BEGINNING
FOR ALL LIFE (and this part has to be held for like a 5 second whispergrunt with some acoustic arpeggios under it
|
| |
omg 5/5
|
| |
the tracklist was found here for anyone wondering http://www.profoundlorerecords.com/agalloch-complete-work-on-new-album/
|
| |
that was sweet, reminded me of hallways of enchanted ebony in a few places
|
| |
definitely has a pale folklore vibe to it
excites me greatly since i consider it to be their best album
|
| |
Not to bad. I can see this easily growing on me.
|
| |
This is pretty damn good
|
| |
i usually find agalloch's adolescent pretentiousness kind of charming
BINGO! Couldn't have said it better myself.
|
| |
Love the production on this but I am yet to enjoy an Agalloch track.
|
| |
how dare u
|
| |

Hahaha, I'd insta-5 on hearing that
|
| |
Just find them musically uninteresting Artuma, sorry!
|
| |
bro do you even mantle??
|
| |
also i don't see ashes in your ratings, which is the album of theirs you'd most probably enjoy
|
| |
Checked Pale Folklore and Ashes and both bored me.
|
| |
Smh Pleb those are their best 2
|
| |
Damn, disappointing stuff.
|
| |
^ Come back to them some other time. I wasn't a fan the first time I heard them either, but I love them now.
|
| |
pleb, you don't dig 'not unlike the waves' ? pretty accessible track as far as m goes. that opening riff doesn't tickle your ballsacks?
|
| |
Eh can hardly remember so I guess not.
|
| |
yes pleb yes
|
| |
Knew I wasn't alone.
|
| |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PuPz7cMD3qs&feature=kp
that intro riff goes hard then that acoustic part is awesome then another bad ass riff and then yeah its just a phenomenal song bro
|
| |
Didnt like this that much when I first heard, but its growing
|
| |
Not a bad track, but I can't help feeling like they've done this before and done it better.
|
| |
Same. It almost sounds like a PF B-side, which isnt necessarily a bad thing though
|
| |
but this is a single song. i dunno, i like songs better when the whole album plays
edit: "...when i'm playing the whole album" sorry i not english very good
also i wanted to say that since this is a single song, you're not in the mood that the whole album (should) create, so of course you don't like it as much as the others that have a context and more meaning
|
| |
This is pretty rad.
|
| |
You didn't feel anything listening to Falling Snow Pleb?
|
| |
Dudes, he changed his name to BigPleb for a reason......hint hint!
|
| |
Fucking snooze
|
| |
Sounds more like their first albums which is a good thing (even though I actually like Marrow more than most people). 3.5 material so far.
|
| |
Not bad. Not sure I could sit through 60+ minutes of this, though.
|
| |
Not bad. Not sure I could sit through 60+ minutes of this, though.
|
| |
this song is pretty boring. I don't know if this band can ever really capture my interest, they always feel flat for some reason.
|
| |
you guys are ugh!
|
| |
this track is still boring the shit out of me
pretty worried about this album
|
| |
just watch i'll end up loving it and you'll 2.5
|
| |
]:
|
| |
Track is awesome Dark, what's not to like? Does it follow the same old Agalloch formula too closely?
|
| |
ill probably listen once, have no opinion, and then never listen again
|
| |
nothing about it sticks out to me at all, i mean it's okay but i don't see it as anything more than that
|
| |
nothing about it sticks out to me at all
it's a song, not a knob
|
| |
