Mastodon announce tour 2014-02-04 by BrianE | 30 Comments | 2014 is looking to be a big year for Mastodon, as the Atlanta heavy metal veterans will be hitting the road this spring. They will be joined by Gojira and Kvelertak as opening acts. If that's not enough, the band also revealed they are putting the finishing touches on their sixth studio album, the followup to 2011's The Hunter. The disc is planned for release later in the year.

| | | wish they were doing a side show
| | | I'd bet me life on kvelertak blowing mastodon out the water when it comes to being on stage.
| | | they are Vak, with Baroness
and zak, I've seen both (at separate gigs) and yea Kvelertak killed it
| | | Vak, Zak......Kvelertak!!!!
| | | I feel like I would enjoy all of the openers more than I would enjoy seeing mastodon again
| | | A little confused... the palladium is in worcester, not boston
| | | Saw Mastodon live over the summer. I love these guys but their live show is weak as hell.
| | | It's not their show is really weak as Mastodon doesn't interact with the crowd that much if at all (copying Neurosis I suppose), they have their head down for most of the set, and they don't really play their instruments with any emotion.
I saw them play with The Dillinger Escape Plan a few years ago and Dillinger's performance was a lot better than Mastodon's. Dillinger wasn't more technical but they stage dived, played their instruments on top of their amps, started mosh pits, and thrashed around everywhere. If Mastodon interacted with the crowd like that and showed emotion like that, their live show would be a lot better.
| | | yeah they were pretty boring when I saw them
| | | I saw Mastodon on the Hunter / Heritage tour when they toured with Opeth and Ghost, and I saw them when they toured with DEP, so I saw same tour as you MasBarHigeuoris21. I can tell you that they upped their game substantially since they played with DEP, because on Hunter / Heritage tour Mastodon absolutely killed it. The band did not move around a ton, but the sound was so crisp, the playing was so tight, the music was so good, the crowd was absolutely insane. They pretty much just played the entirety of Hunter plus a few other tracks. It was the perfect show, and easily the best one I've ever been to, and I attribute that to the Hunter just being a much better live album to play than the others.
I am so pumped to see Mastodon for the third time, and Gojira for the first..
So pumped..
| | | just saw Kvelertak and although they're not the greatest on albums their live set is another thing altogether. had a great time.
| | | Yeah I'm 100% going, but I'm more going for Gojira and Kvelertak
| | | Gonna be the best show of 2014
| | | not even a huge mastodon but Kvelertak brings the pain so hard, gonna be a great show.
| | | Gojira's last N.A. tour was stupendously good. I've been a huge Mastodude since 2006 but Gojira is the more exciting band at the moment, live and otherwise. This should be a lot of fun.
| | | I might be going to the Philly show
| | | boring
| | | Would go to see kvelertak but no calg date, surprise surprise
| | | Screw this lame tour, where's the friggen album?
| | | To bad I live in the middle of nowhere...
| | | probably won't try to catch a show
sure hope the new album is better than the hunter
| | | Dammit no Michigan
| | | Dig mastodon on cd but live.... Big f#$kin yawn
| | | I'll go for the opening acts but probably not mastodon
| | | never to south america
| | | I'd love to see Mastodon in Buffalo sometime but I decided not to see anymore shows at the Town Ballroom. Not that there's anything wrong with the venue, but i've seen so many shows there that it's starting to affect how much I enjoy them.
| | | will definitely hit up ny
