Haha Marko that was quick. The quality is horrendous, I'm surprised they're premiering such bad
quality. Chorus is catchy but the track is generic as predicted (I know its the single but the guys
said they were treading "new ground" or whatever), is there a bass track btw?
|
| |
great song, not an immediate wow, but have a feeling it'll grow on me ^^ ... anyways, for everyone who is experiencing difficulties with the stream because of location, here: http://www.blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=193353 ... like I said, not an immediate wow, but then again, takes time for Mangini's credibility to become accepted ... still, the song has a kind of a train of thought ring to it, with the second part being a not at all bad epilogue to the dance of eternity, doesn't sound bad at all
|
| |
Oh :[ It's sad that what used to one of my favourite bands has just sort of whimpered out into this pile of steaming crap.
At least the drums sound better...
|
| |
It was somewhat good until the vocals came in. Completely predictable and not that great of a song either.
|
| |
Thats the problem JP's too focused on being a riff machine as opposed to quality songwriter. Every metal guitarist can riff. They need to move away from the metal aspect of their music and go towards more interesting genres which they can blend witht heir style, jazz, electronica, ambient, etc. Its like they have to have a million notes in every album otherwise its not a good album, is that how bands like Pink Floyd composed?
|
| |
Yeah this is definitely a better single that Build Me Up, Break Me Down though. Not all is lost. the longer suite songs on the album might be amazing (long shot)
|
| |
Yeah for that period in time it was very refreshing, that was 20 odd years ago dude
|
| |
^
There's nothing progressive about Dream Theater anymore. Since Train of Though, all it's been about is playing as technical as possible and seeing how many riffs they can paste into a song. Clearly evident when you look at how awful the lyrics have been in the past ten years.
|
| |
That's how bands like Dream Theater compose. This new song is okay, but Labrie's voice is not at all
suited for a metal approach; he sounds utterly horrendous until the chorus comes in. I was also hoping
that the band would abandon the notoriously goofy SNES keyboard sounds, and they seemed to have done
so for until the last 3rd of the song. Sounds far, far too silly to be taken seriously.
|
| |
Petrucci kills it. Vocals are pretty awful, but I LOVE the solos in this song.
|
| |
The SNES keyboard sounds are great, but he's used them to death, and then some. You can tell by the structure that the band uses the same layout to compose, they're still bent on have the unisons on nearly every song, its like there are so many ways to compose and you;re sticking with whatever you're comfortable with becasue you're afraid of the reaction you'll get by fans (at least thats my conclusion). Why do they make Myung record the bass parts when they're not even going to feature him on the track
|
| |
Train of Thought is aight but I've never taken a liking to anything else from these guys and this song changes nothing. A bunch of incredibly talented musicians who can't write a coherent song for crap.
|
| |
Reminds me a lot of the material of train of thought, systematic chaos and a dramatic turn of events with a shorter length. Pretty enjoyable and has a very good instrumental work, as always La Brie voice is the weakest point
|
| |
The song is actually coherent, but it's not particularly exciting.
|
| |
Damn can't listen to any of the links because of location or some shit.
|
| |
Bad snare sound...song's ok (3/5).
|
| |
JP, MP have always worn their influences on their shoulder, they rip off PF and Metallica a lot, and I think they're still stuck in that mindset and are always thinking "what would Metallica/PF, etc. do?"
|
| |
ooooommmmmmmggggggg
It's pretty decent. I like Mangini's drums. I just wish the sound quality was better.
Can't wait to hear the non-singles (what are those called?)
|
| |
Cock, suckers are 2 that I know of. This tracks title is fitting since the generic composing is the enemy inside, but they're definitely not running away from it.
|
| |
Hmmm, not available at my location...
|
| |
Okay, now that I'm done listening to it...
It was good, but a little bland. I'm okay with this because I love the typical Dream Theater sound, but I do wish there was a bit of variation in the songwriting. This is a single though, so i'm not surprised.
|
| |
the enemy within>
but yea their singles are usually the worst on the album so we live in hope!
|
| |
i liked it very much
|
| |
If you need a link for the song check this, was very useful for a guy of a thrid world country like me http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2013/08/04/dream-theater-enemy-inside-premiere/2613895/
|
| |
I enjoyed the song, may end up getting the vinyl for the sugary sweet quality.
|
| |
Why is everyone being so Quality-bombing about this song? They've been doing it this way for over 25 years and you all only start complaining now? I was shamed by the fact that you all expect something good out of a DT single when it's usually only for commercial purposes. Perhaps you guys could've said the same about anything else, which I find to be a very unruly statement. Obviously you guys think the group is no longer the same. It's one song. We haven't even seen the album yet. Save your criticism for when the real thing comes out. >:
|
| |
tis the stream i reckons
|
| |
Hell yeah, was expecting this to be a lot worse. It's by far the best single they've released in my opinion!
|
| |
better than take the time? home? lie? nig plz
|
| |
Personally, I thought it was decent. I'm kind've frightened by half the other users opinions right now. After all, it's just a single.
|
| |
"Can't wait to hear the non-singles (what are those called?)"
Those are called epics^
|
| |
Well, the last attempts of epics were The Count of Tuscany and A Nightmare to Remember. Nightmare was the better of the two.
|
| |
nah
|
| |
Assumed you say that. Knowing my luck, you'll prob give this something less than a 3. XD
|
| |
Good drums and interesting guitar stuff. Besides that, fuck James Labrie.
|
| |
This was a great song! I agree with nightmare's frustrations - I'm not sure what you guys expected. This is proggy, heavy and has a great melodic/commerical appeal. It's certainly one of their best singles if you ask me!
|
| |
"Those are called epics^"
Haha well I suppose.
"Well, the last attempts of epics were The Count of Tuscany and A Nightmare to Remember. Nightmare was the better of the two."
Honestly, I would say Breaking All Illusions counts. It was the longest song on ADTOE, and plus it was incredible.
Also, I prefer Count of Tuscany to ANTR
|
| |
Why is everyone being so Quality-bombing about this song? They've been doing it this way for over 25 years and you all only start complaining now?
I think people are just disappointed that a band who once was considered "progressive" are now playing it safe and not progressing. The only thing I found disappointing about this song was the audio quality, but not the song itself.
|
| |
Riffs aren't too bad though it's still very predictable.
|
| |
^in fairness, dt are aiming for a more structured outing with this one whilst keeping their roots and in this song I think they've achieved that. Just wait for illumination theory, I'm sure that 20 min epic will satisfy everyone's epic prog needs ;-)
|
| |
Nightmare better than Count of Tuscany? I've literally never heard that opinion before haha.
|
| |
Agree the mixing is just terrible. But the song is freakin awesome.
|
| |
wouldn't let me listen
|
| |
We expect DT to write quality music, well I don't anymore, lowering my expectations helps ease the pain
|
| |
5/5 best new prog
|
| |
Baseline, third world country, huh? Internet must be like a luxury there.
|
| |
Screw this, I'm jamming Images
|
| |
5/5 best new prog[2]
Will crap all over new FW m/
|
| |
Who's the girl on the far right?
jk...
|
| |
The song was pretty good. I'm interested in hearing the rest of the album.
|
| |
Anyone reminded a little of the band Redemption by this song?
|
| |
Shitty single compared to Rite of Passage if you ask me.
That song was actually memorable and had that badass iphone thing in the middle.
|
| |
Volti thats funny since Redemptions influnced by DT
|
| |
I like it.
|
| |
Better than Build Me Up, Break Me Down. Not bad at all, but I can't help but refer back to when Petrucci said his guitar on this album would sound like a "rich piece of chocolate cake." Well, this song has A LOT of guitar in it, so much where it sounds like it's being smothered in my face.
|
| |
Well atleast they could have released the good quality version, sounds like a rich piece of cakes being puked out
|
| |
I usually don't like to base my opinion on their singles, but damn if the album is as good as this song, it's an instabuy.
|
| |
Shitty single compared to Rite of Passage if you ask me.
I really don't know how I feel about that song, but I liked On The Backs of Angels much more as a first single.
|
| |
The band has removed the song after all the negative comments
|
| |
I liked the riff and wankery and that's about it haha
|
| |
And I swear it sounds like LaBrie is doing karaoke to his own vocals in this song.
|
| |
I can't believe I have over 800 scrobbled tracks by this band.
|
| |
"not available in my location"
oh well. back to new Gorguts album then... which i paused thinking this may be a half decent tune
|
| |
found it on youtube. eh. tis ok i guess
|
| |
Those who don't like this can go to hell and listen to Bieber, omg riffs!
|
| |
Petrucci and Bieber collaboration incoming
|
| |
The link in the article doesn't work. This is the official link for the stream: http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2013/08/04/dream-theater-enemy-inside-premiere/2613895/ so maybe somebody could edit that in?
|
| |
Drumming is pretty good. But holy shit how high does JP want his guitars mixed?
|
| |
Sounds like some cool prog going on
|
| |
Absolutely nothing interesting about this song
|
| |
nothing?
|
| |
Nope. It just goes by
|
| |
The chorus is quite good I think.
Feels like JP might have filled the leadership hole left by Mike leaving.
|
| |
no one can fill Portnoy's size 18 clown shoes
|
| |
How in the hell can anyone say this sucks? Damn I think it's pretty solid. Too much bitching and crying on this site.
|
| |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDhPY0fKjzQ
Finally a link in Youtube for those with the location problem. Might not be up for long though.
|
| |
"Feels like JP might have filled the leadership hole left by Mike leaving. "
......Anyone want to take this?........No?........ Alright I'll say it.
DUUUUHHHHHH.
Haha Parallel
|
| |
"How in the hell can anyone say this sucks?"
I know right?! I mean it has all of the Dream Theater elements, what more could you ask for?! omg
|
| |
i thought it was pretty good, i mean its no take the time but it was pretty decent. liked the beginning the most
|
| |
Traditionally, DT singles are the worst songs off of their respective albums. So if this is as bad as it can get, we're in pretty good shape for a decent DT album.
|
| |
It sucks. I'm sorry people. What the fuck are you even listening to??
|
| |
what's up with those circus-styled keyboards toward the end? lol
|
| |
Lyrics are painfully awful as usual but yeah this isn't bad at all. Kinda looking forward to the album now.
|
| |
This would actually be a decent song, if it was a bit shorter and without Labries awful vocals.
|
| |
Traditionally, DT singles are the worst songs off of their respective albums. So if this is as bad as it can get, we're in pretty good shape for a decent DT album.
Well, the past two albums released a good song (Rite of Passage, On The Backs of Angels) and then an eh song (Wither, Build Me Up Break Me Down) so we still might have a worse song coming.
|
| |
Its up on Spotify and the mixing is still horrendous :/
|
| |
'Anyone reminded a little of the band Redemption by this song?'
Wow, totally did not realise this. It sounds exactly like a Redemption song...
|
| |
This was just a boring song
|
| |
No need to be a dick omair. Or are you also tying to fill some shoes and become the new potsy of Sputnik?
|
| |
It's alright, nothing special but I don't see why it's getting so much hate.
|
| |
I think Labrie's vocals sound great! His solo album which comes out today, in my opinion, is his best one so far. I like every song I heard from it.
|
| |
i was preparing myself for a crap song but i really like this.
didn't blow my mind but a good surprise nonetheless.
|
| |
Did anyone else feel like LaBrie was trying to be Roy Khan?
|
| |
scenes of a memory is the only thing you need to listen to from these guys and even that can be cheesy
|
| |
I&W and Awake > Scenes
|
| |
Yes.
|
| |
Yes [2]
Haha chug I have a long way of dickedry before I can get near potatos level. I was just messing about. But yeah JP was always going to take over, I sensed he wanted to so badly while MP was around anyway. But he's not taking the band to any spectacular places either.
|
| |
'Did anyone else feel like LaBrie was trying to be Roy Khan?'
please don't ever mention LaBrie in the same sentence as our lord and saviour again thanks
|
| |
rip Roy, he should join a good prog rock/metal band asap, one of the best vocals I've ever heard.
|
| |
Or continue with operetta, that would make me a very happy guy.
No homo
Ok a little bit
|
| |
Stop swooning
without me.
But seriously dudes bagging some serious pipes, he needs to get back to singing
|
| |
Who wants to bash DT fanboys on their new lyrics music video?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fm-xw6Lap_4
|
| |
is this good yet?
|
| |
Hell yeah!
|
| |
http://www.levinminnemannrudess.com/ Wtf I didn't know these 3 were collaborating
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I38N8XHJg8U
|
| |
The beginning is great, I don't like Labrie's voice or the lyrics though. It brings the whole band down, the band is fantastic.
|
| |
@Omair
I really hope JP won't become the new Mike. I can feel his presence in the mixing, Myungs bass sounds like it was just turned up enough so that people can't accuse it of not being there. Its a joke.
This can't be the final mix.
|
| |
You best believe it chug. JP's been waiting for this opportunity, now he's going to fuck everything up like MP did. I'm surprised the mix and production are this dreadful but its the same on the lyric video, so unless they're planning some elaborate surprise I'm guessing this is the final mix. Chocolate cake, pfft, make he should take guitar production lessons from mikael akerfeldt, steven wilson or martin henrikson.
|
| |
New Steve Wilson album has some of the best mixing I've heard in a long time. Get on it.
MP was always pushing metal but it sounded so cheesy and trendy. It sounds like JP's interpretation isn't as bad but so far its pretty meh. The last album actually wasn't too bad but I really wish they had let Mangini off the leash to make it that extra bit better. ADTOE sounded like they were having fun.
New track has some sweet drumming and obviously I will wait and see where the new album goes but Myung is a great bassist, why bury him under lame chugging riffs?
|
| |
I don't understand why people think Mangini will radically change the musical direction of the band,
his background isn't very diverse.
"ADTOE sounded like they were having fun."
I wish, they've been sounding mechanical since ToT, I wish they would start enjoying as opposed to
over analysing every note and whether it should be 123/89 or 4/456. And yeah Myungs wasting his
talent, or maybe he just give a shit anymore, either way its a loss that JP and JR won't care about,
maybe becasue now they have mangini to save the day! And the reason ADTOE wasn't as cheesy as recent
T was becasue they ripped off I&W and the mixing and production wasn't very crisp or heavy, but it
was still very much in the metal domain not rock.
The mix on Ravens aight, production could be better imo but its not bad. Album wasn't special
though.
|
| |
better than this could ever be
|
| |
This is somewhat better than the whole previous DT album.
Labrie's voice is barely listenable and that's really sad, because in albums such as Awake it was the band's calling card.
|
| |
For those hating on the mix, check out the iTunes version. Far better IMO.
|
| |
its better yea, snare still sounds awful tho
|
| |
This band is still making music? Didn't they dissolve in 2010 or something?
|
| |
Ugh... Labrie just should quit. This is just uninteresting, it feels stale and predictable.
|
| |
"Can't wait to hear the non-singles (what are those called?)"
Songs
|
| |
"This band is still making music? Didn't they dissolve in 2010 or something?"
2002
|
| |
pretty much what i expected. the opening riff was enjoyable but the rest was kinda bleh. plus, like
everyone else has said, the quality is disturbingly awful
|
| |
Meh
|
| |
