I liked the beginning part, and though not much happened during the track it seems like a pretty middle of the road offering; not impressed nor discouraged, a lot of bands have tracks like this.

Really safe song, and that's now necessarily a good thing. Solo was cool, but I really don't like writing albums off just because the single is meh. They'll probably release 1 or 2 more songs between now and the release, so if the next one sucks then it's safe to say the album sucks.

TBF Arin Illejay's a good drummer but it's clear the rest of the band treat him like shit and probably wrote his drum parts for him.

@XingKing The only way in which City of Evil was a step downhill is that it was the first time we got such a big dose of M. Shadow's absurdly nasal cleans. By far the best album in their discog nonetheless.

It's not "bad" per se.
It's just...dreadfully boring...and average...but oh so boring...
It seems to follow some sort of boring formula meant to promote boredom with no depth of any sort,
no change in tempo or in sound. It sounds like a heavily dumbed-down version of Metallica's older
stuff. New drummer's about as active and energetic and lively as a Japanese porn actress. Or a
corpse. Perhaps a japanese porn zombie. He just repeats the same tired beats for the whole freakin'
song. There's so many parts where they could "build up" a little bit and add a climax, but there's
no climax, no crescendo of any sort, to be found. The closest thing is the guitar solo which isn't
too special at all.
Yyyyyyeeeeaaaaah. It's not looking too good. Album's probably gonna be awful. Not that it's any
discouragement for their fanbase.
Adolescent-identity-crisis-me is disappointed.

I don't mind them trying to take influence from older groups, but damn, that shouldn't mean you completely throw the concept of being halfway interesting out the window. Not at all a fan of Avenged, aside Waking the Fallen, but at least most of their other tracks have some form of progression. Can't believe you of all people are this misinformed. The Rev had the gist of the parts written, but nothing recorded in a way that was usable on the album, and MP tinkered with and recorded the parts. As far as I know, The Rev only appears on the recording via some singing parts he had sketched out (and possibly some of the keyboards? Can't remember).

had to listen to Waking The Fallen right after to make sure that they indeed used to be good. And yes, it is really this song that is the worst thing I've heard for a damn long time.

The Rev had actually recorded a bunch of demos in an electronic drum kit, some piano parts and some vocals, Portnoy just came in to record what he wrote and do some fills.

Having just now heard this song for the first time today, I have to say that surprisingly it's growing on me. I kind of like the new sound that they're going for, but I do hope that this is the worst song on the album. I've never been a big A7X fan but I do kind of like this new groove-metal style they're attempting. Interesting experiment anyway. I'm going to reserve my final judgment on the "new" Avenged Sevenfold until I hear the rest of the album.

I completely despised the song when I first heard it though, and something I promised myself was that "I will never like this crap". Here I am now kind of enjoying it... Gotta say the riffs are catchy, and Shadows' vocals are not overlayered like most of the time, which is a good thing.
