Was wavering between a 3.5 and 4 for this. There's some different things going on but at the same time it all seems very similar and there's no real "awesome!" moments

Black Swans was better IMO. Fans should find something to enjoy here.

joe satriani doesn't really even write songs he just composes backing tracks to noodle over.

The people critisising him of "wanking" or "noodling" obviously have only listened to his older material. He's a lot slower and more melodic now. Three Sheets to the Wind is a cool track

i'm a Satch fan but this, for me, is not as memorable as Professor Satchafunkilus and the Musterion of Rock

I mean. I can understand that a lot of people in sputnik and similar websties hate a lot mainstream acts, false metal groups, scene and core bands, some rappers and shit like that. But in almost every rock circle that exists this guy is untouchable and only a bimbos and jerks disrespect the work of satriani.

I think there's plenty of people out there who consider Satriani's playing to be nothing more than soulless wankery. It's not just a Sputnik thing.

I can understand that some people classify as souless wankery acts that I love like dream theater, between the buried and me and malmsteen, but this? I'm sure most of them haven't heard properly a big part of the discography made by this guy. Tracks like revelations and cloud race across the sky have also passion and intensity.

And the disrespect is only seen here and in a really small minority of RYM.

Personally I've never liked this guy's guitar playing. Even when he plays more melodic parts it seems so lacking in depth and emotion. He's technically a very good guitarist, I can't deny that, but for me he lacks the ability to compose anything that is in any way engaging.

I've never been a fan of this kind of guitar playing (shred, wank, whatever you wanna call it) anyway so it's no surprise that I'm not a fan of this guy.
