Will Sheff starts new project 2013-01-15 by Robin Smith EMERITUS | 4 Replies | 609 Views |
In a series of tweets that totally went viral (on his website, through email, probably soon to be accompanied with a folk song of their own), Okkervil River frontman Will Sheff revealed a project he had secretly been working on throughout last year. Reportedly, Sheff has been working on a new album - under the title Lovestreams - alone, and has decided to release its songs to fans. On his newly launched website, he talked about the process that brought about the project.

In the early part of last year I started renting a room down in a basement a couple neighborhoods over from my apartment in Brooklyn and I started going in and working every day of the week there, just shutting the door and writing until evening. I decided to do a project there I’d wanted to do for years and years, which is to make an album by myself and for myself, an album that doesn’t owe anything to music I made before. When I finished the album I decided I’d give some the songs away for free since it cost almost nothing to make. So here’s one of the songs, over here on this site. The name of the project is Lovestreams.

Sheff has released one song under Lovestreams so far, "Shock Corridor," free to listen on his site. And you know you want to listen/complain about folkies doing "blasted bleepy bloopy synth-pop," right? Sheff has previously posted the lyrics to the song as a listed poem on his website.
