The Dear Hunter New Album
2012-06-19 by G.M.B. | 54 Comments

Alt rock outfit The Dear Hunter have made a rather large announcement.

The first announcement is that the group have partnered with their label, Equal Vision Records, to launch frontman Casey Crescenzo's very own imprint label, Cave and Canary Goods.

With this, the group also announced that they are set to enter the studio later this summer to record a follow up to the critically acclaimed The Color Spectrum. Much to many fans' dismay, this album will not be the much anticipated continuation of the groups multi-album storyline. Casey is still taking time away from the writing of Act IV, stating that he isn't quite ready to write it, and wants it to be perfect.

The only information about the upcoming release is that it is the first album void of a concept. Casey said that the album will be "written straight from the heart." Beyond that, little is known about the upcoming album, which will be slated for an early 2013 release.

The full announcement can be read at this link on their website:

didn't they just write 30-40ish songs last year?

for their own sake I hope it's not bland or bumpy when the writing sessions start.

I hope this is better than The Color Spectrum. It was a great album that had some amazing songs, but it was nowhere near Act II

There were like 18 great songs and 10 bad ones. There was a large amount of good material but also a large amount of forgettable crap as well. It was a success but still, it lacked that Dear Hunter charm.

That post also says they performed The Color Spectrum live in its entirety, and the filmed show will be released later this year. To me, that's just as exciting if not moreso.

I forgot to mention that. There really isn't much info on it yet though, just that it exists and will be released in the near future. I'll definitely be getting that for sure, and hopefully finally ordering some TDH merch with it.

If Casey is taking this much time away from it, I'm sure Act IV will be nothing short of astounding, but I'm okay with this too, so long as it's TDH quality of course.

Act 2 is like a 4.75 for me, Act 3 a solid 4, and the Color Spectrum a 3.5

I had a similar early reaction to The Color Spectrum vs. the Acts... but with patience and by not pretending like it is a
2.5-hour record, I've learned that every song on the spectrum is, at varying levels, incredible.

It's a shame many don't try to approach the color spectrum piece by piece as 9 Eps rather than an insurmountably
long album... and instead say it's too long, boring and hit-or-miss. I felt the same way until i dissected it one or two Eps
during a listening session.

Now I have to listen to the whole thing all the way through every time because the whole fucking thing is masterful. I
dare say I even like it better than the Acts, except maybe Act II. Absolutely beautiful music. This new record will be no
different.

Act II, then Act III, then Act I. I haven't had the chance to listen to the Color Spectrum let alone the FULL Color Spectrum. Disappointed that they aren't working on Act IV however maybe that means it will be the best of all works done so far. One can only hope. I'm curious what he will do though not having a concept album.

So keen! This band is not overrated at all, they are a group of REAL, talented musicians who have blessed us with their music. Color Spectrum as a whole, is better than any of their ACT albums in my opinion, although ACT II is really close behind. The Color Spectrum really demonstrated how talented, and diverse these guys are. I'm really excited to see which direction they take with the new album, knowing that they're capable of writing music in a variety of different styles and genres as demonstrated by the Spectrum. Casey's voice is hawt.

I read somewhere (fansite or something) about a year ago that Casey said he wanted to do an album that was like 10-12 songs, no concept, just whatever he's feeling. I imagine that's what this is going to be and I think it will be good.

the color spectrum was awesome to listen to as 9 EP's as it was intended to, not as one whole album. Im excited to hear how this turns out, I doubt it will be a let down.

Haters gonna hate no matter what. The Color Spectrum was an accomplishment, it gave the band a wide
range to experiment, and there are many songs were on par with anything they have written in the acts.
The best part about them being that they are less Rock-Opera. Act III was great but almost went too
far IMHO.
