Chimaira guitarists to quit 2011-11-10 by Metalstyles | 34 Comments |
Chimaira's long time guitarists Rob Arnold and Matt DeVries are both leaving the band at the end of 2011 due to personal reasons. The split is amicable and the rest of Chimaira wish the guys well in their future endeavors.
Full statement by vocalist Mark Hunter: "I would like to start off by thanking our fans for a great tour. This last run was a blast, and truly the most fun we've had in a long while. The energy from the audience was exactly what we needed, and a welcoming return. Thank you guys!
Unfortunately, as much fun as we were having, behind the scenes we were aware of some unfortunate realities that prevented us from "living the dream" and having the time of our lives. We had another bomb to drop on the fans.
Early in July we were informed that Rob Arnold and Matt DeVries would be leaving Chimaira at the end of 2011. Of course this was a huge blow, but there were no hard feelings. We understand that life invades art, everything runs its course, and we have to take different paths. We respect their decision and wish them only the best. We made heavy metal history together and that is all that matters at the end of the day. Chimaira Christmas 12 will be their last show, and we've been preparing to make it one that you'll never forget.
I would personally like to thank Rob and Matt for all of their hard work, years of service to Chimaira, amazing songs, and for their friendship. Together we built something special that will remain for generations to come. I'm looking forward to spending another 5 weeks on the road with two of the best (and criminally underrated) guitarists in modern metal.
What's next for Chimaira in 2012? More on that very soon. Rather than try and make light of unpleasant news, or downplay this by hyping up a new line-up, let's take a few to honor Rob and Matt. My favorite solo of Rob's is on "The Heart Of It All" and my favorite riff of Matt's is "The Dehumanizing Process". I'll be cranking those today. What about you? See you in Detroit."

Rob Arnold was really the driving force of this band, so rip

Mark Hunter must be a real doucher..
|
| |
RIP Chimaira
|
| |
So does this make Mark the only original member now?
|
| |
They had an okay run. Hopefully they can find another guy (or two guys) to fill the spot if they want to continue though.
|

Band should be called Mark Hunter and the Chimairas. Band hasn't been good since Resurrection.
|
| |
creapin again

in all honesty, the last album was lacking. there was nothing that stood out about it at all. best wishes to them all though, and thanks for self-titled
|

Band is officially dead now. Rob was one of the contributing writers of all their music, they shouldn't even be called Chimaira anymore.
|
| |
Wow, can these guys hold onto anyone?
|
| |
Peace out Chimaira.
|
| |
gotta thank these guys for helping me transition into heavy music. self titled was sick.
|
| |
Seen them live a few times and never really thought they were anything special. At least leaving on good terms is pretty cool.
|
| |
dont care
|

Band used to be awesome. They were playing upstairs while I was at Boris. Now I kind of wish I got a glimpse of them live.. oh well.
|
| |
seeing them sunday for the first time in a solid 7 years. always kinda liked this band, never got too into them. we will see how it goes sunday.
|

Chimaira's last album has boring aside from a few good songs. I actually think they might be able to come back and make a better album next time.
|
| |
goddamn. I'm surprised as fuck that these guys haven't just called it quits yet. I give em another year tops.
|
| |
Damn. That's too bad. Rob Arnold contributed largely to the band's musical direction. I am going to miss his style of playing as well as Andols' drumming style. They were one of the first death metal bands I got into. Hopefully, Mark Hunter can gather up some new guitarists. It would be nice to have that classic Chimaira sound on their future albums, but with Rob and Andols gone, we can't be sure.

in b4 Josh D. says "Oh well."
|
| |
This band is completely done for now.
|
| |
So I guess they'll pull out of Soundwave then? FML

They were one of the first death metal bands I got into.

^ Damnit. Just beat me to that one.
|
| |
band is fucked
|
| |
Damn what's with this band???
Don't be too hasty in erasing this band's name off the blackboard, though.
|
| |
Aw :/
|
| |
This officially signals the end of Chimaira as we know it.
|
| |
Still undecided whether to go see them or not, considering it's almost like a farewell tour.

So it was announced in early July?
Sputnik has consistently been the worst place for music news.
|
| |
Sucks pretty much, they were one of the biggest (and coolest) bands in the modern scene.
|
| |
So it was announced in early July?
Sputnik has consistently been the worst place for music news. The guitarists told the other band members about their plan to leave in July, it was announced only now. We're as up to date about this as any other website.

That is too bad... At least I got to see them live twice before they died.
