Dire Straits unfit for eveywhere
|
| |
les boys do cabaret, les boys are glaaad to be gay
|
| |
Canada bitching about nothing like always.
|
| |
Bullshit, my radio station's management is as strict as possible and they shrugged their shoulders at those lyrics.
|
| |
When they play it in the States (or when I used to hear it), it was always an edited version. Are they not playing that, because it is silly if they are just banning it because one of the versions might offend people.
|
| |
Common sense unfit for Canada
|
| |
What Josh D said, there must be a censored version.
Crowing, you're absolutely useless.
|
| |
Oh crap, I'm from Canada.
|
| |
Stupid music stations again. Stupid government who is too much conservative.
|
| |
^ Correction is too much "liberal" however this isnt the case since our currently elected prime
minister is of conservative devotion.
|
| |
you think our government is too "liberal", are you a fascist?
seriously, there's not that much further right than Harper.
|
| |
crowning51 makes the stupidest posts on this site
|
| |
Stupid, because Knopfler's lyric is not gay-bashing, but rather used in an ironic context. Silly Canadians.
|
| |
Thats why I made the comment I did NigelH.
You guys are soo mean :
NigelH your username makes me want to listen to XTC - Making Plans for Nigel now
|
| |
My country can be seriously embarrassing sometimes. I mean, who gives a shit about the lyrics to a boring, overplayed, 25-year-old Dire Straits song?
|
| |
i do, because they are awesome.
|
| |
We Canadians are very sensitive
|
| |
oui
|
| |
I hate my country sometimes
|
| |
haha. this is hilarious. knopfler is the man.
|
| |
canada: taking it up the butt for 200 years
|
| |
The Daily Mail had a field day on this.
YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING ANY MORE!!!!!!!!!
|
| |
Next it's going to be illegal to say war or birth. Those could offend pacifists and people who don't want children.
|
| |
songs containing the word "faggot" wouldn't get played on american radio stations either, guys.
(without being dubbed, of course)
|
| |
And you won't even be able to smear "FUCK OFF HOME" in animal shit on the side of an immigrant's car without some do-gooder calling you a "racist!"
|
| |
We do everything to "protect the children", this is to protect a 6% minority.
Boo hoo.
|
| |
money for nothin and your sluts fo free
|
| |
people not really understanding Canadian politics itt.
I hate when my country excepts this super liberal bullshit, I mean come on it's not bashing anybody and they just look like those people who try to take the smoking parts out of Classic Hollywood cinema
|
| |
End of day people should just stop being so sensitive to words.
|
| |
i think the crux of this story is that dire straights was getting airtime to begin with.
that's astounding.
|
| |
"I hate when my country excepts this super liberal bullshit, I mean come on it's not bashing anybody and they just look like those people who try to take the smoking parts out of Classic Hollywood cinema"
Kind of like how we've never seen a picture of Obama smoking on United States television even though he hasn't quit. Reality might send a bad image, after all.
|
| |
Dire Straits are good what are you even saying.
|
| |
You should be able to say whatever the fuck you wany whenever the fuck you want... faggot.
|
| |
What we should do is present an image to kids of absolute Utopia where nobody gets ill, swears, is different, drinks or thinks any negative thought and then when they hit 21 just LAUNCH it at them like BOOM!
Yeah that will make them more stable individuals.
|
| |
Those sneaky ba$tards... It may have taken 25 years to notice, but they were found out eventually.
|
| |
I think we can all agree that music or any art should never be censored.
And that Knott fails at sarcasm.
|
| |
lol radio.
|
| |
i bet randy newman has a tough time in the great white north
|
| |
That song is awesome it predicted to coming of Justin Bieber:
'Little Fagot is a Millionaire'
|
| |
Woah hold up some people are saying Dire Straits aren't good, what the.
The song was written about Motley Crue apparently.
|
| |
Does this mean that Canadians no longer have to suffer through American Idiot on the radio?
|
| |
i'm sure plenty of obnoxious people in canada think of that as a "YEAH WE'RE NOT AMERICAN" anthem, so no.
|
| |
''Does this mean that Canadians no longer have to suffer through American Idiot on the radio?''
Unfortunately not.
|
| |
Woah hold up some people are saying Dire Straits aren't good, what the. [2]
|
| |
"End of day people should just stop being so sensitive to words."
Don't know about this - words have a lot of power, not always obviously. But political correctness needs to suck my balls. Trying to force everyone to be nice to each other just makes everyone hate each other even more.
|
| |
^Good point right there
|
| |
I think it is rather silly to address this issue NOW. 25 or so years later. Hell it wasn't meant to be offensive to Homosexuals at all. Hell even ELTON JOHN did the song with the band live like really?
|
| |
one of the only good songs on that shitty dying terrestrial radio, I feel ashamed to be from Canada right now. Little faggot government.
|
| |
I really don't have much to say other than that's pretty fucking retarded. Why not play the clean version instead.
|
| |

|
| |
It was brought to the attention of The Canadian Broadcast Standards Council that the song used the word "faggot" three times
...after a mere 25 years.
|
| |
Way to misinterpret the lyrics. Fuck I hate this country sometimes.
Little faggot government.
|
| |
You're a faggot.
|
| |
Why is this news worthy? There's a lot of songs that aren't radio appropriate.
|

Why do you bother being a dumbass troll?
|
| |
"i think the crux of this story is that dire straights was getting airtime to begin with.
that's astounding."
oooh so witty. troll on brotha.
and this song is played in america (at least in NYC) unedited.
|
| |
Don't know about this - words have a lot of power, not always obviously.
Clearly I think so, or I probably wouldn't be here. But words only really have power when there is a specific intention behind them. The words themselves mean fuck all - it's the way they're used and the malice or lack thereof that makes words mean something beyond their semantic value.
|
| |
but people think through association and the other can never be known except through their words and actions, and therefore any word, whether intended to be malicious or not, has its own set of consequences based on connotations. Having said that, I still think this is ridiculous.
|
| |
Censorship never works
|
| |
this is stupid
|
| |
Ugh, it's such a shitty song anyway. Dire Straits aren't even that good in my book to begin with.
|
| |
So, you grown those pubes yet puzzles? No? Then shut the fuck up.
|
| |
You know how people say, YOU'RE OKAY IN MY BOOK, or AND IN MY BOOK THAT'S NO GOOD. Well, I actually have... a book. And everybody I ever met goes in this book. And now I've met you, and... YOU'RE GOING IN THE BOOK TOO. Unfortunately, now I'm gonna have to file you under chicken... shit.
|
| |
i dislike eveything conservative.knopfler is a living legend.why don't they just play the version they play on u.s. radio.i don't see what the big deal is?
|
| |
People need to harden the fuck up!
