Iggy Pop's Concert Rider 2006-10-05 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 5 Comments | Drop everything. If you like your concert riders to read like short stories, you'll thank me.
The Smoking Gun has liberated the single most entertaining concert rider in the history of, um, concert riding. It's not like Iggy Pop and the Stooges need another excuse to go down in history, but the most extraordinary things often happen at the most unexpected occasions.
Reported to be written by roadie Jos Grain, the rider is littered with more witty comments and repulsive remarks than the average morrissey review and is almost as entertaining. Stretching to a massive eighteen pages, the rider is written in a bizarre stream of consciousness style and contains the following demands and more:
- "[It should] look less like a typical rock & roll dressing room, just let someone loose with a little bit of artistic flair...Er, do you know any homosexuals?"
- "a copy of USA Today that's got a story about morbidly obese people in it. Most amusing!"
- Explaining the need for two heavy duty fans, Grain notes, "So that I can wear a scarf and pretend to be in a Bon Jovi video."
- Requesting "Straight Cymbal Stands," he adds, "we are equal opportunity employers, so gay stands may apply also. (They won't get the fucking job though...)"
