Lame. Very.
|
| |
I'm leaving again on metal heart breaker
|
| |
This will do well for their legacy.
|
| |
metalcore gettin its ass whooped this year.
|
| |
Nooooooo.
|
| |
what the fuck man
first lewd acts now this?
|
| |
FFFFFUUUUUUU!!!
I was just getting into them. Such a good band.
|
| |
certainly been around long enough to warrant a hiatus. one of the cooler band names imo
|
| |
The whole Lewd Acts-PTW combo here is really awesome. What a shitty day.
|
| |
Damnit! I still haven't seen them live!
This is a very sad day indeed.
|
| |
Their shows from the first half of the 00's were a lot more energetic than the rather hit or miss atmosphere of the last couple of years. that being said, even at their worst they were better than most.
|
| |
really? i actually got lucky enough to see them open for Deftones, which i thought was impressive considering PTW was relatively unknown at the time
|
| |
when was that? because Poison the Well have been rather well known for a long ass time. I mean they
didn't have like mainstream success, but when You Come Before You came out they really exploded in
popularity (headlining tours/mainstage at warped back when it kinda meant something) and most people
that got into hardcore/metalcore in the beginning of the decade (that I know) got hooked by Opposite
of December. I actually think that their popularity peaked back from 2003-2005.
|
| |
Opposite of December ruled my life
|
| |
Eh, at least they went out on a good note.
|
| |
fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
|
| |
"We want to thank everyone who has supported us in anyway, whether it be buying a record or a shirt, to the occasional robbery from time to time."
Heh. =P
Sad to see them go, great band, but I'd be interested to see what they do next individually if they stay in music.
|
| |
The robery line had me loling so hard.
|
| |
posion the well were a talented band and had many excellent records ...
|
| |
Makes sense, they have been doing this for such a long time. One of the few heavier bands that I still find myself listening to from time to time.
|
| |
Yeah, it's a shame considering the new record was actually not bad at all. These guys helped me kind of get into the music I'm into now at large. Who knows though, maybe they'll be back and do something else. Can't blame them at all for being you know, people.
|
| |
Well they said it's hard for them to do this, so chances are they'll be back.
I'm just glad that everything after Distance Makes The Heart Grow Fonder was consistently awesome.
|
| |
And that I got to see em live. c:
|
| |
poopy.
|
| |
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
MY FAVOURITE BAND
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
|
| |
Eh, at least they went out on a good note.
this. i can't see progressing any further from TR tbh, so this will be good for their legacy assuming they don't start up again.
|
| |
^They redefined things from each album to the next. I have faith they could have still progressed.
I am so massively bummed though. I know I missed their glory years as well.
|
| |
This fucking blows, Poison the Well has quickly become one of my favorite band over the last couple years, all their albums are excellent, and The Tropic Rot was no exception. It was easily one of my top 5 favorites of last year, think I even gave it a 4.5. Needless to say, this fucking blows.
|
| |
Inveigh is gonna be pissed...
|
| |
stop that
|
| |
so this will be good for their legacy assuming they don't start up again.
unless they pull an alice in chains
|
| |
when was that? because Poison the Well have been rather well known for a long ass time.
had to be 2003-2004ish. that's when i was in NOLA
they may have been somewhat known in the scene, but when nobody really reacted to their set, I would have to say they weren't generally known among the Deftone faithful
i would say that back then they were more undergroundish/upandcoming, so that's why it was a pleasant surprise when Deftones chose them to open for them. it was a small venue too and somebody threw a shoe at Chino. Needless to say he was pissed and said "you're not getting your shoe back" lol
|
| |
höeüöhöhöhöhö
|
| |
New record was excellent so at least they end it on a positive note. That being said, this is really sad news
|
| |
Damn... You know, PTW had just begun to improve themselves. Since Versions, they kinda drifted away from the metalcore scene only to bring 2 of the best albums I've heard in my whole life.
Same thing happened with Deftones, and what do you know? They actually are more popular now than a decade ago...
|
| |
^Um...they only had one album after Versions.
The fact is, they created the style of music that makes some of the most money in the scene, and had the balls to step away from it and continue to (successfully) push the boundaries of hardcore, despite a drop in popularity. They deserve enormous credit for that
|
| |
:/
|
| |
I'm fucking crushed.
|
| |
Well this sucks....
|
| |
Sucks- new album got me back into them
|
| |
hopefully after the hiatus they come back and rock faces even more, i've been listening to this band for almost all of my "listen to good music" phase of my life
|
| |
still no Inveigh comment here...I'm surprised.
This does completely suck. Such a great band.
|
| |
Wow, this really sucks. Really bad. As many have said, they are leaving on a good not though. I think we will remember these guys for a long long time.
|
| |
The fact is, they created the style of music that makes some of the most money in the scene, and had the balls to step away from it and continue to (successfully) push the boundaries of hardcore, despite a drop in popularity. They deserve enormous credit for that
well put Captain.
still no Inveigh comment here...I'm surprised.
haha, there was a news article submitted early yesterday afternoon that I commented on, but it got removed due to the acronym PTW being in the title. I made a list about this yesterday too.
Anyways, yes this sucks major ass. This was the band that got me into metalcore back when the heaviest things I was listening to were Deftones and Metallica sometime in the late 90s. I luckily got to see them live 4 times (once with Candiria sometime in 2001, Warped Tour 2003, Sounds of the Underground 2005 and played a show with them in DeKalb, IL in 2008 on the day I graduated). They were having money issues for awhile from what I gathered by talking to them briefly a couple years ago, and I just don't think they could continue to make this their main source of income -- which is sad because The Tropic Rot was (in my opinion of course) the best album of last year and one of their best albums overall.
Inveigh cried himself to sleep last night after masturbating feverishly to Nerdy and A Wish For Wings That Work. :-(
|
| |
That's not cool. I was masturbating to thoughts of Abe Vigoda last night, but you don't see me going around screaming that to everyone.
|
| |
'Inveigh cried himself to sleep last night after masturbating feverishly to Nerdy and A Wish For Wings That Work. :-("
lmfao
|
| |
but weren't you howling like a wolf while strokin it, Nick? that's not any different.
|
| |
You can't blame me! I have very rough hands!
|
| |
The fact is, they created the style of music that makes some of the most money in the scene, and had the balls to step away from it and continue to (successfully) push the boundaries of hardcore, despite a drop in popularity. They deserve enormous credit for that
They didn't create any style of music, there was tons of melodic metalcore before them.
|
| |
you should spit in em first
|
| |
I'd be interested in who was releasing melodic metalcore albums before 1998
|
| |
^me too
|
| |
Yes, please inform us, Mappy.
|
| |
Well the face that Undying and Prayer For Cleansing were both around in 1996 and 1997, and that Skycamefalling's demo came out in 1997...
Aftershock was around well before either of those bands.
JS.
|
| |
yeah but those bands weren't playing melodic metalcore back when they first started. Skycamefalling's demo sounds practically nothing like 10.21 and Aftershock was more akin to Integrity than their later incarnation in KsE.
I never really thought of Undying or Prayer for Cleansing as all that melodic (at least not in the vein of PtW, Skycamefalling, 7A7P etc) but if we're just going by when they were "around" then PtW was around before 1998 -- I was just talking about when their first release came out.
|
| |
Aftershock WAS ESSENTIALLY another version of Integrity, Prayer for Cleansing weren't really a melodic metalcore band when they first started out, playing more melo-death inspired music. Also, Skycamefalling's demo came out around Distance Makes the Heart Grow Fonder(actually, I think SCF's demo came out AFTER Distance), and sounded nothing like 10.21. NOTHING LIKE IT.
|
| |
DAMMIT BLAKE!!! YOU BEAT ME TO IT!!

Facing what consumes you is the only way to be free.
Released from those poisonous fears.
Resurrected once and for all.
You want me to hold my tongue,
Then why the fuck am I here?
You want me to bottle my rage,
Cause you never had the heart to say what I say.
|
| |
What are you guys talking about?
Prayer For Cleansing, Undying, and Aftershock had TONS of melodeath riffs throughout their whole careers.
Skycamefalling's demo has a lot of just hardcore parts to it, but there's a good amount of melody.

NO ONE CAN RELATE TO MY ABANDONMENT
I WALK THIS EARTH ALONE IN SEARCH OF SALVATION
FOREVER! FOREVER!
FOREVER ALONE!!!!
|
| |
No offense mappy, but when you said Stick to Your Guns was melodic hardcore, I lost all respect for your opinions.
|
| |
lol don't take anything I say about stick to your guns seriously.
but saying undying and prayer for cleansing isn't melodic.
lol.
|
| |
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3I8dhsyX3pc
like, how this not melodic?
|
| |
STRAIGHT TO YOUR FACE! STRAIGHT TO YOUR FACE!
|
| |
No one said that they weren't melodic, but there is a distinct difference between just being melodic and playing melodic metalcore.
|
| |
I'm talking about the first band to release a melodic metalcore album that people actually paid attention to -- not what band practiced in their parents' basement first, you can debate about that kind of stuff all day long. The fact is that Poison the Well were the first band 99% of people remember doing the whole hardcore band with melodic riffs, palm-muted chug-style breakdowns and clean-sung choruses thing.

| |
k well shush

last few updates = yayyyy

"Just to be clear..PTW is NOT completely done. We just want to take a break for a while. I know we will create again, that's not an issue... "
fucking eh
|
| |
fuckin sweeeeeeeet!
and yeah I get a little worked up about this band for some reason... there are probably lots of people on this site who can attest to that lol
|
| |
In every corner and space I search for you,
I've only found your vocal cords.
|
| |
thats my favorite one :D
|
| |
They deserve it. Thanks to you PTW!

For a Bandaged Iris is quickly rising up the PTW ranks for me

HATE THAT I'M NEVER CERTAIN OF WHAT NEEDS WHAT MOOOOST

|
| |
Sad news but it doesnt seem like theyre done forever. They have had a couple long hiatuses before. Im surprised they are still together after all these lineup changes. You come before you and tear from the red and are definitely two of my favorite albums ever. And all the others are solid as shit.
STARE AT ME NOWWWWW
ON YOUR WAY DOWNNNN
STAREEEE ATTT MEEEE
|

BUT I ADOREEE HERR, THIS WILL NEVER HAPPEN, OVER MY DEAD BODYYYYY
OF COURSE I THINK ABOUT IT, BURN MY PATHHH, IF IT DOESSS, BURN MY PATHHHHH
|
| |
this just ruined my day, one of my fav bands. at least i have seen them 4 times.
|
| |
Glad I got to see them live at least once.
Bummer to hear this though. At least they're going out in style.
|
| |
forever is such an unplesant word

|

Poison The Well = NICER DICER, shame they broke up.
WHY DO YOUR EYES PARALYZE MEEEEEEE????
|

Damn... I love this band so much. This really sucks =/
|

With every part of mine
fall away with every bit of you
I miss me
give me some place to find
I'll meet cold everyday
think of all I need you around
but for now anyways
hands held tight around me leave me
hands held tight around me
with every part of mine
fall away with every bit of you
This song got me into them when it came out. But I have to say Tropic Rot brought my respect back up for this band. Maybe after a break, they will take it to the next level.
|
| |
Can't believe so many people thought Tropic Rot was so good...it was average at best. You Come Before You was their magnum opus, and I only saw them going downhill from TR, so their breakup is probably for the best.
|
| |
Tropic Rot was them branching out into new territory, it has a Cave In feel. I was tired of the metalcore sound by the time YCBY came out, it has some good songs and all, but Tropic Rot is them actually going outside the box.
|
| |
yeah TTR's awesome, there's not much out there like it
|
| |
TTR rules, slade to black sux
|
| |
I knew they could come back, I was just worried it'd be the typical hardcore hiatus of 10 years +. But those twitter posts make me feel a bit better.
|
| |
Inveigh cried himself to sleep last night after masturbating feverishly to Nerdy and A Wish For Wings That Work. :-(
What'd your better half have to say about that?
|
| |
CHINGE SU MADRE!!!
|
| |
I'm saddened by this.
|
| |
this fucking sucks
|
| |
it's cool, it's only temporary
|
| |
but it's indefinite
|
| |
but look at their twitter dummies
|
| |
i'm too hip for twitter silly
|

well then, no wonder ur so misinformed!!!

we must stop him
|
| |
but i luhhhhh sebby
|
| |
well at least i can say i saw them live a few times.
|
| |
They're good.
|
| |
I always found their older music simplistic but effective. They had a good run
|
| |
this saddens me greatly
|
| |
They gotta come back... They just gotta come back!
|
| |
All good things come to an end.
|
| |
To an end? They're coming back, if they don't I'm going to piss a chicken
|
| |
At least now they don't have the chance to get terrible like In Flames did.
|
| |
Can't get into this band, grrrr.
What song by them got you into them?!?!! What was catchy?
|
| |
Holy shit: Cinema.
Not catchy, at all, but I now somewhat get it. They are talented.
|
| |
They're not a catchy band. That's not what they do.
|
| |
^....except they were a defining metalcore band turned boundary pushing post-hardcore band. They did more for both genres that the majority of those that play them have combined.
|
| |
someguest, you're one of the very few people I've known to like this sort of music and dislike PTW. haha.
|
| |
Huge fan of this bands later material. While I loved Opposite, I just dont feel it held up quite like Tear and You Come Before You did. I loved the last one and was lucky enough to see them when they came through this winter. Still were great live, but of course no one moved unless it was an old song.
In response to Distance, the split with Promise No Tomorrow (when PTW was known as An Acre Lost) was released in 1997, same time as the SCF & Undying demos. Distance was released in 1998 (which is re-recorded tracks from that split) and SCF released their first ep, Undying released theirs at the same time as well (all came out pretty much within months of each other) Prayer For Cleaning released their full length the next year.
|
| |
At least now they don't have the chance to get terrible like In Flames did.
Poison The Well does no wrong.
|
| |
Versions...wow, major fan there aye. Haha, but you're wrong about Opposite. Tear is the album that doesn't hold up over time. It just rehashed old ideas and the songs actually do kinda sound the same.
|
| |
Yes, because although I love all of them they are not equal.
|
| |
Ahh. Yeah, pretty much the same, except I can't say I ever listen to Distance any more.
|
| |
theres not one thing they've done I hate.
|
| |
