It's the re-visioning of the song for "Re-Traced." Definitely not bad. Not really ground breaking, but I like the prominence of the bass and the phaser at the end.

Contrary to most opinions it would seem, I love this. I might be biased due to the fact that KOTWK is my favorite song off of Traced. I still think this is great though.

Oh wow, i really like it. Dunno why you guys dont. Obviously you guys dont like anything different or new, or not really cynic fans. Their music has always been spiritual and I see it more in this. Obviously id like to hear more kind of Cynic stuff, but I like this. Its a mix of Cynic and Aeon Spoke, but I enjoyed it. And as Atomic waste said, re-vision of their songs.

If people don't like what you like, they must not like anything different or new (how is a remake of a song that the band put out two years ago different or new, again?). Excellent judgment.

Yes! New Cynic material!
Guys, this is just a simple EP, don't be expecting anything insanely good. They are just proving to themselves that they can play more than just metal. I personally think the original King of Those Who Know is their best song yet, and being a jazz-fan also, I like like this one. It isn't quite as good, but it's still great.
Also, after they make this EP, they are going to be touring, and soon after they're going to make a new record, Paul said in an interview. I expect it will be heavier. Anyway, definitely looking forward to the release of Re-Traced!

Dunno, this is my cup of tea. Loving it so much. Nothing gound-breaking or mind-boggling and that's why it might be disappointing to some, but really, it's a solid track. At least for a remix/re-imagining I think it succeeds wildly. Definitely a great ambient feel to it. Never gets overbearing or too out there. But hey, maybe I don't really know anything about music. I like to think I know a little, haha. Maybe not. But I do really love it.

I think people are, A, having too high expectations for a remix EP that isn't meant to be more than that (an experimentation with previously made songs out of interest in other areas of music and the background of the songs) and B, overlooking the fact that you might not dig this style of music to begin with. After all, Cynic wants Cynic, not Cynic meets Aeon Spoke. But I'm okay with it, it's an EP and I'm enjoying the material in this song, whilst staying true to a lot of what Cynic is at its core.

In the end, don't fuss so much. Just enjoy it or don't. Cynic is not one to sloppily put out material or to just. It's not that type of band I believe. So, just see it as what it is. Nothing more, nothing less. I'm just glad to have some new material.

And yes, I'm looking forward to a new Cynic album like crazy, haha.

-Side comment: Everyone enjoys music differently, but Cynic is not like a Trivium or Korn or whatnot. Just curious why some people regard it as crap, besides how much they enjoy it. But to each his own opinion.

@bloozclooz Just because Traced in Air and Re-Traced aren't that heavy doesn't mean their material after it won't be. Anticipating a Cynic record isn't possible.

Æon spoke-esque versions of their songs are badass.

sorry it takes more of an open mind to appreciate it, but it's Cynic we're talking about.

It is inherently a deeply atmospheric and meaningful endeavor to them, so chillax to it.

Sorry for the misunderstanding.... I meant I just think it will be. However, knowing what they will actually put into a new record is impossible. (Focus/Traced in Air: 100% different. Then look at their old demos, then Gordian Knot, then Portal, the Aeon Spoke. It's all somewhat different.)
