Although its upsetting that it leaked so damn early. I doubt this is going to hurt their album sales...if anything it could boost it.

It kind of sucks that this happened so early because by all accounts the band are the most genuine people you could ever wish to come across. I still think the security's an issue; there shouldn't be a way for a teenager in their room (which is odds-on favourite) to break past your website's defenses and lift the upcoming album of one of the world's best artists. I guess now it's damage control for the label, hopefully they can organise some deal whereby the record becomes available digitally fairly soon, or at least for pre-order.
Fortunately, Thrice's fanbase comprises a lot more dedicated fans than most bands' do; the chances are the album will sell well anyway, especially since the leaked version is a) voiceover'd, b) 192kbps and c) doesn't include the normal superb packaging Thrice are associated with. And for the record, it's good. I'm not going to pretend I haven't heard it, but that doesn't mean I condone the leaking of the material in the first place. And ofc I'll buy it in October, and do a fair bit of hyping in the coming months.

hopefully they'll tack some more songs onto the actual album release further down the line.
anyways i feel really bad for the boys.

Adam (or anyone else who has heard it), since I wouldn't illegally download anything, what do you mean by "voice-over'd?
|
| |
Vagrant's promos all have a short voiceover during each song, saying something like "You are listening to the new ... album" (I can't remember what exactly they have).

*advance promotional stream
Digging: Fugazi - The Argument
|

Once maximum every song, a low-pitched voice says "You are listening to a Vagrant Records Advance Promotional Stream", lasts about 2 seconds. Slightly interrupts the listen but it's not the world's end; it's hardly what you want on your copy of a song you enjoy, though, yknow.

that will still ruin it for me and i will not listen

The voice over isn't so bad, really digging it so far.

Thanks for the clear answer guys.

Cruz Del Sur's voiceovers are the best: just some Italian bloke with a booming voice stuttering his way through his one line.

Early leak, man. The album sounds pretty sweet so far though, and let's be honest - this leak probably won't affect the sales whatsoever. Most people don't buy music, this we all know, so what's the big deal? Who would have bought this album but now won't because they can download it? Oh well, I personally am gonna buy it even though I'm listening to it already because I love Thrice.
|
| |
hell ya to paramore being hot just hayley that is
good idea trying to change the thread topic to paramore. something that won't get us in trouble

props to them for throwing in a 1984 reference. amazing book.

Vagrant's system is okay and already beefy enough, it has restricted IP access and everything. That being said, it probably isn't rocket science to rip the songs off of it. This was just inevitable given the scope of the release, it's not a big deal. The voice-overs IMO impede the listening enough to make people want to get the real thing.
Digging: A Forest of Stars - The Corpse of Rebirth

the voice overs are usually over parts that don't focus on dustin's singing. so it barley covers teh best part of the album
|
| |
It doesn't make it hard to listne to but it makes you awnt to hear the full thing as intended. It's enough of a dissuasion without being a total distraction.
|
| |
I wouldn't say it was "inevitable". Obviously almost all records leak, but they only announced the details of the album last week- and it's almost three months until release.
|
| |
yeah but cocaine's easily right; there's no way in hell that any thrice fan is going to be satisfied with versions of the songs that have some random label message over them when the album is available to purchase.
|
| |
yeah i am going to buy it. i was just saying it's not like you can't appreaticate the song with those voiceovers
|
| |

Maybe not inevitable, but given that these streams are sent out so early and for the most seem to be flash based it's not surprising to see what ultimately boils down to a web-rip coming out. Then again, this seems to be more sophisticated as it seems like they're the actual base tracks that make up the stream players as opposed to individual sound-captures of the stream itself. But my point is this tends to happen when you send stuff out so early. The only album I've ever dealt with that hasn't leaked was Fortress: I got it about a month and a half prior to release and it didn't find its way online until it was released in Japan. Leaks happen and the sooner you send them out the sooner they come to be. Perhaps a sad truth but a truth nonetheless.
|
| |
Well they have to send out albums this early for print media- Alternative Press and whatnot are still Thrice's bread-and-butter and most have a lead time of up to 10 weeks. Sending out a CD might have been more secure, but you still have the risk of couriers etc.
|
| |
Voice over'd aye? I still need to get a good clean copy of a Soilwork album...my version has a voice over. xD

Sucks for the band/label.

*shrug* Any record I can forget I'm listening to on the first listen probably isn't all that great. And I don't get the radiohead references that were slung around when they were still recording.

I refuse to listen to the leak because I'm really really excited about this album. I'm gonna buy it for the whole experience, maybe on vinyl. I like that Vagrant is being so polite about this, most companies hate pirates to the point that it's innapropriate.

I have to say I have downloaded this, and it is incredible. However I will delete it later, so it will be like a stream of sorts, and then I will buy the album in October. Of all the bands that this happens to, Thrice deserves it the least. They have always treated their fans incredibly well.

Ive been looking all around for this leak and can't find it. Where did everyone else rip it from? And i think Thrice's fan base is so strong this leak won't have that large of an effect. Everyone here including myself will still purchase the original copy.
It might even build hype for it do to the fact they may release the album earlier, imagine how many articles will take place.
But seriously where is the album leaked at!@!

I probably won't purchase the original copy.

I really hope this doesn't change the album's focus or they change something. They should just forget about it IMO. It may be hard for them to do, but I'll love them even more if they just let it go and release the record how they were going to.

I've never listened to them, either. Should get on that.

Not THAT big of a deal. Minus The Bear's last one leaked almost 8 months before release date. Regardless, I'm going to listen to it, download the inevitable non-watermarked leak, and buy it when it comes out.
