The Killers Plan Covers Album

2009-06-26 by PuddleSwimmer | 33 Comments
Brandon Flowers, leader of Las Vegas quartet, The Killers, announced to www.NME.com that they are planning a covers album to follow their 2008 album, Day And Age. Flowers says they should finish recording by the end of the year.

"It's something that we've always talked about doing," says Flowers. "It's difficult for each of us to pick songs that represent us as individuals. I mean, I have a lot of personalities myself! I've gone through everything from Neil Diamond to the Cars."

Drummer Ronnie Vannucci has also stated some artists he's interested in covering: Genesis, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop...he even added "a little Cyndi Lauper" and said he's been "messing around with a couple of Fleet Foxes songs."

I thought they were taking a break because they could stand to be around each other after touring so much etc? Meh, I don't really care either way...

Seeing as their last album of original material was a pile of shite I don't see how a covers album could be worse...oh wait a second this is the Killers we're talking about, chances are it will be shite as pretty much everything post- Hot Fuss they did was too.

i really didn't like anything after hot fuss. it seemed as if the vocalist was having a hard time catching his damn breath and stuttering all the time.. i'm still curious to hear what songs they cover

Band are actually a little underrated on here - sure, they're not that original or amazing, but they have a pretty good overall sound. I definitely prefer hearing them when i'm out to soulja boy or the jonas fucking brothers.

I'd imagine pretty much everyone on this site would take these guys over Soulja Boy or Jonas Brothers, at least the Killers have some talent that they displayed on Hot Fuss

well the Sam's Town wasn't bad either tbh. I need to raise my rating for ST to 3, but for some stupid reason my pc doesn't let me

I used to like Sam's Town a little but it grew off me incredibly. Hot Fuss probably isn't even a 4 for me anymore. Day & Age just blows and Sawdust was okay for a while

I thought Hot Fuss was quite a bit overrated. Sawdust is probably my fave. New album is alright, and Sams town blows

Why is there so much hatred towards this band on this website?
I think they are a pretty good band. I would actually put them in my top 50 or so.
I hate people who hate bands just because they're "big". Grow up.
Expand your musical preferences. I like Circle Takes The Square, and In The Face of War. Does that mean I have to hate a good dancy song?

come on.
Whenever I hear "Read Your Mind" I can't skip it on my ipod. It's a great song. Along with Bones, and the Mr. Brightside remix they made.
The singers voice has a calming sort of passion to it. (Listen to the second half of A Dustland Fairytale. Proof) There is no better feeling than riding a longboard and taking it easy while listening to The Killers on your iPod.
I also liked their cover of Bright Eyes better than the actual song. Bright Eyes newer stuff totally blows. He's lost it.

They have talent. and they want stardom. and that's what they're getting.

Now, as an entire album of covers? I think it'll be OK. I thought their cover of shadowplay was alright. And I really like the Romeo and Juliet cover they did. So who knows...
I'll probably get it.

by the way, if your only musical tastes are Opeth and other bands exactly like them, don't respond.

What hate for the Killers??
I see positive responses towards them mostly, especially for Hot Fuss.
Just trying to start something, eh?

People don't realise ratings like 3.5 etc are still good ratings. 7/10 is hardly a bad rating, yet people see a band with mostly 3.3-3.8 ratings and think they must be mediocre/boring... Nah, it usually just means they're good songwriters but just a little unoriginal or whatever.

If the Killers put more parts into their songs and tried to experiment they would actually be a v good band

Mind you, other bands with those ratings (Audioslave, eg) recieve quite a lot of hate from here

meh, thats just cos there are lots of elitists. paramore get those ratings and get plenty of fanboyism/fangirlism along with it.
