Arch Enemy Album Details

2009-06-23 by Dave de Sylvia EMERITUS | 49 Comments
Swedish death metal act Arch Enemy will release their new album The Root Of All Evil on September 28 in Europe, with a North American release to follow a week later on October 6.

Guitarist Michael Amott said: "This one took some time to get done, despite the fact that the actual songs were already written a good few years ago! The album was recorded at a few different locations locally here in Sweden - produced by Arch Enemy, with Daniel Erlandsson (Drums) handling a lot of the engineering. It was then sent to Andy Sneap in England for the mixing/mastering and I simply can’t stop listening to this since I got the final mixes!

"We basically headed down to our rehearsal studio, got reacquainted with the tunes, picked out our favorites and proceeded to give a breath of new life to those early songs, with the idea to have the possibility to re-add them to the live set and follow up with some touring activity!

"I’m loving hearing these songs with a fresh new sound and performance, everyone in the band did a killer job on it - especially Angela’s vocal performance is astoundingly intense and brutal and it was also cool to hear Sharlee lay down some great bass tracks on the early songs! The production and mix is crushing and heavy as hell - it really makes these old songs shine – it sounds like a brand new thing!"

I've been waiting for this thing since I heard they finished the drum tracks back in September of last year.

I can't wait for it!!!

The new songs are going to be killer, combining AE's awesome guitars from their older work with Angela's much more tolerable vocal attacks. Liiva = poop.

Liiva wasn't all that bad, the music on their first album was pretty repetitive, not just the vocals.

I was more of a Johan Arch Enemy fan. Angela is amazing at what she does, but I haven't liked the albums as much as BE, Stigmata, and Burning Bridges. That being said, I almost always catch their live shows in LA and they always blow the roof off.

Sweet, lots of new albums from 'popular' metal bands this year.

edit: I agree Phantom, the vocals sounded much better on Doomsday

and especially excited because I couldn't stand Liiva's vocals

Ok, I did some searching and answered my own question:

This special collection features re-recorded versions of songs from the first three ARCH ENEMY albums — "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999).

All good. Ftr I prefer lower death vocals, Angela needs to get more guttural.

Her vocals in her older bands were like almost cookie monster. Wouldn't really suit Arch Enemy though

Every woman *can* do it, but hardly any of them actually partake in such disgusting acts. Angela is a Goddess because she's one of the few women out there in music who enjoys doing something that completely goes against the conventional thinking of how women should act. Melodeath chicas ftw!

You lose credibility with comments like this.

Album will most likely really suck because they are taking their older (awesome) stuff and watering it down.

How do you know they're going to water it down? My biggest problem with their older albums was the vocalist so this should fix that problem.

How do I know? Give Rise of the Tyrant and Doomsday Machine a spin (if thats any indication).

Wages of Sin destroy's anything by Liiva. That still is my favorite album by them, Rise of the Tyrants is second though. Don't know why people like the two middle albums, they hardly felt like full albums. They were very hit and miss
