Mount Eerie Goes Black Metal

2009-06-12 by joshuatree EMERITUS | 30 Comments
Mount Eerie has built a reputation as a solid indie act over the past few years, finding creator Phil Elvrum crafting melancholic indie folk that acts as a continuation of his former collective, The Microphones. The average Mount Eerie song is quiet and sad, usually finding Elvrum by himself with just an acoustic guitar.

However, that's all going to change come August 18th, as P.W. Elverum & Sun will release Wind's Poem, which has been called Mount Eerie's 'black metal album', by both a press release and numerous indie webzines. As ludicrous as that sounds, the artwork and song titles certainly bring to mind some sort of USBM shit.

The album was almost completely recorded by no one but Elvrum in Washington. Whether or not the album will resemble traditional black metal that Hawks10Pec will enjoy, or if it'll be a continuation of the skewed stylings of 2008's Black Wooden Ceiling Opening, remains to be seen.
