Jimmy Chamberlin Leaves SP

2009-03-20 by red0 | 26 Comments
The last remnants of the original Smashing Pumpkins is over, as Jimmy Chamberlin officially left the band today.

According to the website:

"CORGAN SET TO HEAD INTO THE STUDIO TO CREATE NEW SMASHING PUMPKINS MUSIC

The SMASHING PUMPKINS' guitarist, singer, songwriter and founding member Billy Corgan has announced that drummer Jimmy Chamberlin has left the group. Chamberlin joined the band Corgan founded in Chicago in 1988 and played on all their albums except Adore (1998). Corgan will continue to write and record as SMASHING PUMPKINS with plans to head into the studio this spring."

More reason to rip on Billy Corgan.

The mother of a friend of mine was Billy Corgans best friend growing up. She was his prom date and everything. They were bffs. Probably the only connection I have to someone like that. Unless you get into that six degrees of seperation crap.

I was just listening to Mellon Collie today, and was really enjoying it, and now this is what SP is reduced to

Wow... I did NOT see this coming... I wanna see the reason why Jimmy left, I feel however he left on his own reasons, to be honest I don't think Billy had ANYTHING to do with it.

SP look doomed, however when Jimmy wasn't there, Adore was made, & that album was special. If another Adore is made because of this, SP may not be doomed after all

Officially no reason to listen to them anymore. Chamberlain was the strongest part of Zeitgeist by a mile and I'm pretty sure Adolf Corgan had a part in his leaving, the guy is a notorious douchebag to fans and bandmates alike. Chamberlain seemed to be sincere in wanting to continue the Pumpkins for the fans alone whereas Corgan has said repeatedly that he doesn't give a shit about the fans... could be a reason behind it.

They should have never reformed to begin with. Jimmy is making a smart move.

Who says Billy needs to give a shit about the fans, as long as cares about the music that's all I can ask.

I'm really bummed to hear this, James and D'arcy whatever, but it won't be the Pumpkins withoutJimmy

It's about time.

Corgan needs to stop crapping on the Pumpkins' name.

I wish they had stopped at MACHINA, that album was great, and then all of this on/off-in the band/out of the band bull wouldn't be skidmarking all over their past acheivementsThis Message Edited On 03.22.09

MACHINA sucked. MACHINA 2 was good.

That seems to be the common opinion, but I personally enjoy it.
It's just that it's not really a "singles" album, it's something you have to sit down for, and take your time with.
I think it's extremely underrated

Other than the odd few tracks, most of their material after '98 was forgettable. Corgan should realise it's time to call it quits and perhaps focus on something else.

might as well be another solo album, though Corgan has been a big driving force behind SP, it's just not the same w/o any other original members...but that's me

give it up Corgan, you've released three solid albums in your prime, at least value those and stop shitting on your legacy.

Curse.

Smashing Pumpkins were never good and Jimmy was the only person with talent in the band.

if you're honestly going to sit there and say that Corgan has never released any good riffs or wonderful melodies in any of his albums, then I don't know what kind of freak you are.
