Atheist and Gnostic Signed

2009-03-13 by Trey STAFF | 9 Comments
Technical death metal bands Atheist and Gnostic have both found a home at France's Season of Mist. The label will be releasing both of their albums during 2009 starting with Gnostic's Engineering the Rule on May 25th, 2009.

For those that don't know and may be wondering why the news for both bands has been put together it is because Gnostic was the band started by Atheist drummer Steve Flynn shortly before Atheist reformed. Gnostic features three current members of Atheist and was produced by none other than Kelly Shaefer, frontman of Atheist. The two bands will also be touring together later this year.

ATHEIST/GNOSTIC drummer Steve Flynn previously stated about the two bands' decision to sign with Season Of Mist: "Season really stepped up to the plate to get this done, for this is also a highly unique situation for technical death metal. Three members of GNOSTIC are also in ATHEIST. With me on drums for both bands, Chris Baker on lead guitar for both and Jonathan Thompson on bass for GNOSTIC and guitar for ATHEIST, these signings represent very significant personal milestones for everybody involved.

I also decided to piggy-back the Gnostic news onto the Atheist name because I figured more people would look if the Atheist name was attached and not just Gnostic. Obviously, anyone into one band has a pretty good chance of liking the other one too.

Good work Willie, I wouldn't have checked this out if you only mentioned Gnostic, as you predicted. Now I will look into their release when it comes out.

Why would you tour with your own side project?

Why not? What's the problem with that? The fans have an opening band they'd probably like and you get more cash. Besides, it wasn't supposed to be a side project. They started Gnostic before the Atheist reunion stuff.
