New Showbread Album Update 2009-03-10 by Cuban Pete | 2 Comments | The name of post-hardcore/alternative act Showbread's upcoming album was confirmed as The Fear of God by frontman Josh Dies. He also gives an update on its status in a new blog:
"We started writing songs back in May of 2008. I finished a song that someone described by saying “Hmm… very Weezer… very Flaming Lips”. Mike, and myself threw around several more loose ideas and Ricky was doing these experiments with programming drums that kind of sounding like they were going through a blender… I think I have the files somewhere…
But before all that there was talking, lots of talking, about what the record might be like. We had just finished Anorexia Nervosa and several members had left. Patrick, Mike, Ricky and myself were pretty excited because our musical opinions were more unified than the former members and ours.
We briefly entertained the idea of another elaborate concept album… We actually entertained it for a while and discussed it at great lengths. The more we discussed, the more the record we were planning on drifted from the original idea. We had just finished an elaborate concept album; we didn’t want to do it again.
We continued to talk and record occasional ideas but it wasn’t until January 2009 that I actually sat down to really write. The focus, the direction, seemed to be pretty simple. Rawness. Intensity. And of course, passion…
studio sessions begin in 1 month and 11 days."
