In Flames Guitarist Goes To Rehab 2009-02-04 by Adam Thomas CONTRIBUTOR | 36 Replies | 1359 Views |
Jesper Stromblad, guitarist for Swedish metal titans In Flames, has chosen to not to join his band mates on their upcoming tour of Australia and Japan in order to fight his alcohol abuse problems.
Quote:
As some may or may not know, Jesper has struggled for some time with alcoholic abuse, and decided to sit this one out (South America/Australia/Japan) in order to seek help and focus on rehabilitation and all that comes with it.
We all talked about it and together with Jesper we chose to ask our longtime friend Niclas Engelin, who helped us before, to complete the tour.
We are all sad that it needed to come to this, but health comes first.
Thanx for your understanding.

Every time I've seen these guys live there is always a constant flow of alcohol being brought to the stage during their sets. Good to see that at least one of them is reexamining their priorities.

Being an In Flames fan I really hope he manages to sort himself out because being dependant on alcohol is really bad. But I can't imagine getting to the point where you'd sit out an entire tour and go to rehab instead. He must really like a drink, or several.

It's true though.

No that's Overcome by All That Remains. I don't think the latest In Flames was that bad, definitely not the shittiest record of 2008 at all! I guess we're all entitled to our own opinions though. This Message Edited On 02.04.09

Overcome, A Sense Of Purpose and Blooddrunk are all pretty much tied
|
| |
Blooddrunk? Oh yeah that album. You see it's not until somebody mentions it that I remember it actually exists. I kinda have a bit of a soft spot for In Flames. Clayman is one of the CD's that started to get me into more melodic sounding metal. This Message Edited On 02.04.09

Nah, i'm happy for Jesper, going cold turkey is a good way to go, I just don't give a shit about In Flames except some of their older stuff.

I like In Flames. Just the latest album was a real letdown.
I'm glad Jesper is getting the help he needs.
|
| |
Hopefully now he'll remember that he's the leader of this band and how to write great solos.
|
| |
If you watch the dvd that came with some versions of the new album, they basically recorded the new album completely sozzled.
Pity that the first time I see them it won't be the full band.
|
| |
Get well and back on the live circuit soon Jesper!
Oh and by the way, Blooddrunk is by far and away the worst album of 2008. A Sense of Purpose doesn't even come close I'm afraid!

There is no way Blooddrunk can be worse than Overcome. This Message Edited On 02.05.09

It's pretty funny to see everyone talking about how In Flames, All That Remains, and Bodom made terrible records this year. In Flames definitely did make a boring album, but Blooddrunk and Overcome at least have a few decent songs on them.
I don't think Blooddrunk had any problems except for its lack of interest, but I only hated Overcome because it completely went radio-friendly and it sucks. Two Weeks is the only listenable song. You go back to Darkened and The Weak Willed and wonder what the fuck happened.

Hope he takes part in the UK tour in April / May

So you blast the album for being "radio friendly" and then name the most radio friendly song on the album as your favorite...nice.

IN Flames`s album was definitely not that bad, I actually liked it quite a bit. And i don`t care what everyone else say, but "Disconnected" and "Alias" are great songs.

Really upset about this...Jesper IS In Flames...but I am so grateful the rest of the band are still coming over to Australia, and I'm sure his fans wish him all the very best.
A Sense of Purpose is a powerful, hooky record (IMO) and the songs will translate to the live environment amazingly!
....I am new to this site - but do you people actually LIKE ANYTHING? All anyone seems to do is slag off every band except Cynic and Opeth.

I liked ASoP.
