New Killswitch Engage album

2008-12-08 by wakeupdead | 49 Comments
Killswitch Engage have announced their follow-up to 2006's As Daylight Dies.

For the new record, the band has tapped Brendan O’Brien (AC/DC, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam) as a producer. Guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, will be the co-producer of this as-yet-untitled album and will be the first time the band has used an outside producer.

The album is expected to be released in the spring of 2009.

I'm curious to see how they will change (if at all) and if they don't, how they will write more songs with the same style without it sounding watered down. Should be good though

they're cool to hate I guess but I still like this band.
I can't help but be worried about someone besides Adam D. stepping to produce, at least after hearing All That Remains' new album. This Message Edited On 12.08.08

^ I was thinking the same thing. I've got a soft spot for KsE, and can't really see what Brendan O'Brien at the helm is gonna bring to this record. Pumped, hope it isn't as lackluster as Overcome was to me

ya watch this be mainstream garbage.

Killswitch Engage has been pretty mainstream for their last two records already so doubt that's going to change. They're still kicking ass so I could care less. Hopefully this will rule and I'm curious to see what will be different.

ya watch this be mainstream garbage

it's not like they're really that original anymore, what with every other metalcore band copying them and all.
I do think they should develop/refine/hone their sound a bit more but it probably won't really happen. This Message Edited On 12.08.08

i'm a little wary about not having adam d in the producer's chair.... but maybe it will help push them in more ways than just performing the songs flawlessly

I'm interested to see if they develop their sound, though I doubt they'll do all that much differently. I hope they do, because AOJB and TEOH are two of my favourite metalcore albums, and I don't want to see another one of those from them.
You never know, they might change...

since he's producing the new Mastodon album I have hope...
BUT seeing bands like Train, Springsteen, and Wallflowers, he should stick with that music and not produce metal. lets keep things separate here, k?

I doubt Killswitch will particularly evolve from a sound that they have honed for years, but in all fairness, why do that if they're so good at it? I'm not their biggest fan but nobody can deny they write some absolutely f**king monolithic tunes! Try as they might though they won't, and i stress this, will never top "Alive..." which funnily enough had a less talented vocalist.

Still this album has a great chance of sounding good if Adam D is co-producing this. I'm sure he won't let it sound s**t!

Alive or just breathing and the end of heartache were decent albums, but the last one sucked big dicks big time. It's metalcore anyway, what else would you expect. It's the most generic, basic and overproduced metal subgenre out there, so you can't expect a metalcore band to produce more than 2-3 good albums in their career, and that's what's happening to KWE, period.
